The era of the pocket passer is dead.......

A modern NFL QB must be built like a LB pass like Marino and run like Ricky Williams

One thing is for sure, physical tools QBs alone don't win SB on rookie contract, guys like Allen and Lamar who are historically great physical tools prospects. Stay away from tools alone QBs in the draft. This is a message for all Drake Maye, Anthony Richardson, Jalen Milroe lovers, like some of colleagues in draft forum.

Wow what do I owe the OP you for all this scintillating new info -

So Allen only rushed for 20 yards and won

With Mahomes and him in the AFC championship does that mean dual threat QBs like Lamar can't get it done?

It's undeniable that the NFL has changed. People can cite Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Dan Marino but all of those guys are retired and Brady had 20 years experience running the same offense when he was last taking snaps.

The most successful QBs can all move around: Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Daniels, Hurts, Murray, etc. Even guys like Burrow and Stroud can scramble when they need to.

It's important to note that Tua was believed to be that guy when he got drafted but concussions have proven he can't be that guy.

If you're building around a fundamentally pocket-based QB like Goff or Tagovailoa (for health reasons) you're "a step behind" as the video puts it. You're letting the opposing defense dictate the game.

You just watched another postseason game played in ridiculously bad conditions, which demanded both teams be able to generate yards on the ground while occasionally chucking it deep.

For the record, Josh Allen won doing this as a passer:

Yesterday, in the perfect conditions of a dome, Jared Goff turned it over a bunch being tackled in the pocket, fumbling and throwing INTs while his rookie counterpart had a relatively easy go of it and scored 45 on a Top-10 defense.

The league has changed.

I still believe that pocket passers can win. There just aren’t many good ones at the moment.

NFL is converting to a College style offense more and more. its more important now than ever before to have a solid Oline and Dline in the NFL (it always was) but with dual running threat QB and a Premier RB your entire offense needs to be built with this in mind. You can play fancy and trick plays here and there but it's not a SOLID blueprint for a staunch contender.

I agree. Our “next” QB must be dual threat but it must be one with elite traits as a passer. Don’t want to make the Justin Fields/Anthony Richardson mistake, and I think that’s what some team is going to do with Jalen Milroe.

If things go left quick in 2025 I’ve got my eye on Nico Iamaleava…..
yep, gotta get the right dual threat qb tho and that's not so easy. Maybe caleb williams might develop better with a good new head coach or oc, but he could be the one that's not good out of that years qb draft class while we see jayden crushing it

You could tackle Cunningham though. You can’t tackle a QB nowadays, nothing to deter them from running.
yep that's the big difference. That's why mobile qbs didn't become running qbs for too long before they became more pocket passers. Look at Steve young, he scrambled well but got rocked over time and it wore him down. People don't remember but steve young was pretty fast as as qb when he was young. His speed was similar to young russel Wilson. I think Young had 4.5 40 time as a qb. Yeah I looked it up 4.55 40 as a qb, not too bad for a qb. But as he played for niners we turned more into a mainly pocket passer

Just click on link and it will show video on youtube of Steve young plays

Yeah he was no cunningham but he was definitely a duel threat qb back in the day until he got knocked around as said and geared his game more as a pocket passer. It was different then with physicality, running qbs didn't last as long because of getting blasted. Dual threats could thrive more now because they won't have ronnie lot taking their heads off, as defenses can't really crush qbs running down the field these days compared to the past

Time to pick up Justin Fields and develop him behind Tua. We ain't gonna be bad enough to be able to find one early enough in the first round and gotta fill up holes on the O line.
