It's pretty simple. The fact that we haven't made a decision yet is merely a reflection of a very weak candidate pool for head coaches this year. Why are we talking to Shula's son? Well, I don't think it's a coincidence that it might have something to do with the fact that Don Shula is on WH's advisory board to choose this coach. It's obvious they aren't crazy about Gailey or Mora Jr. otherwise why add Shula in the mix? I wonder what happened with Cam Cameron, perhaps he didn't interview well? Out of all of these candidates I say let's just promote Capers and bring in somebody as an o-coordinator and be done with it...

Or it could just mean we dont want to rush to hire someone.

How would you feel if we made a quick hire and then one of the other available coaches turned out to be great?

I dont see the problem with exploring every option untill you are 100% on your decision.

I agree with you 100% Alex. I just also think that if there was a really strong candidate surely who wasn't still playing in the postseason that we would've hired him unless we're waiting for some candidates who are still in the playoffs. I mean, I've flip flopped on this whole thing like everyone else, but at this point I say how about promote Capers, fire Mularkey, and bring in Mike Shula as Ocoordinator. Although to be honest , Mike Shula didn't show much in his previous stint in the NFL as ocoordinator, nor much at Alabama, although maybe he should've been granted more time. The fact that none of us are excited about any of these canidates probably isn't unique with regards to the circle of folks who actually have a vote...

or we are holding out because our guy isnt available yet via playoffs.

What are "means" in that sentence?

:))

Possibly...all these other guys could be filla busters? Who knows. We truly do have time on our side simply because there isn't much other competition and we have enough of a staff in place in personel and other coaches to handle what we need to for the nfl draft...

I don't know but the fact that it didn't just come down to Mora or Gailey really got me upbeat.....Mora and Gailey would be clowns as head coaches....I'm glad we didn't rush into it and select one of them

Yeah, what did happen?? Maybe now, they will talk more since the Chargers are eliminated.

I'd be willing to guess that with SD out of the playoffs now, and Schotty Sr. probably on his way out... Cameron would probly be promoted to HC

The other thing it probably means is that we can really afford to take our time with this search because we don't have much competition for the remaining candidates in the limited coaching pool in the first place. We can take a few more weeks can't we? The draft will be handled by Mueller and the existing staff which Nick left behind which is both expensive and enormous...

I just read a few threads that suggested that Marty is still in as HC of San Diego. I mean damn, he did win 14 games, has a young and talented team who should return in tact next year, and did enter the playoffs with a first year QB. Also lost again on the foot of a kicker. He did make some mistakes in that game too, but I'm not sure Spanos will fire him...

There are canidates but as a lot have already mentioned not a lot of prime targets in the pool. Wayne H. needs to take his time because a quick rush decision is going to bite us in the end. But, a few more weeks may be too much time. A ideal time would be to search high and low for anybody else who may be available and give it till the end of the month. Having said that I would not be the slightest surprised if we have a new coach by Friday morning.

Yeah man, neither one of those guys are anything to write home about eh?
