I know this is going to drive "The Fan Gestapo" crazy, but I think we face a serious issue as a franchise. I know what's coming-- "You aren't a TRUE FAN." "You haven't passed the TRUE fan test". "Its only one game" blah, blah, blah.

IMO, its the true fans that are sick to death of this less than mediocre crap that gets put out game after game, year after year, and doesn't want to take it anymore. Most fans, (true or not) think someone should be held accountable (QB, Oline, backup center, etc). Question is, WHO exactly should be held accountable and on what criteria do we judge these deficient individuals?

I am critical of the Fins, the players, the coaches. I am critical because I give a damn and hold them to a high standard. Its hard to believe that after all we've been through with Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wannstedt, and now Nick Saban that more people are of the attitude of "breathe and like it". F-that.

It's funny how in 1998 when I began my crusade to rid the team of JJ, everyone criticized me and not the team's performance. I was constantly bombarded with questions "Who do you want, Rich Kotite"? I learned then that so many Fins fans use the lowest standard to judge the Dolphins. I don't. I have high standards and use the best team in the NFL when comparing the Fins. I just took it for granted that most others did too. I could not have been more wrong. As long as we weren't the worst team, so many fans were content to tolerate the crap that was the Fins.

Then, with Jimmy staying all of 1998 and 1999 ( over two seasons too long with most fan support) and we got drilled 62-7 in the playofffs, everyone seemed to "agree with me all along". This was comical.

After the debacle on Monday nite against the Jets in 2000 I wanted DW fired. I knew this team would never win anything under Wannstedt. I caught hell on the message boards saying (what else), I wasn't a "true fan", I should go jump on the Ram's bandwagon, yatta, yatta, yatta.

One of the writers on this board (Mike O) who was writing for another site at the time even stated that "EVERYONE SHOULD GET OFF DWs BACK AND LEAVE HIM ALONE". He argued that DW had us moving in the right direction and the players responded to him. I guess he liked the direction of 4-12. And to be fair to Mike O, there was as much outrage at my assertion as there was at his absurdity. "After all", these people argued, it was "only one game".

Now comes to Nick. Every coach makes choices and takes gambles when putting together a squad. Last off season, the 49ers gambled on Alex Smith (they are 2-0 this year). This offseason, the Saints gambled on Drew Brees and the Chargers gambled on Philip Rivers. (Both teams are 2-0 this year).

Nick Saban put tied his fate to DC. The reason DC was available was because the new coach in Minnesota watched film of Duante and made the determination that DC wasn't the answer and opted for a 38 year old QB with limited physical skills. Hmmmmm...that in itself should have told us something. Well, its obvious now that the DC experience has failed. DC has to go and NS probably, (unless we now run the table to the bye week) has to share DCs fate.

You don't six years to prove yourself in this league. You get 2-3, and you must show improvement and acumen along the way. NS hasn't shown improvement with this team and hasn't shown the ability to judge talent. For this, I think serious, TRUE FANS, should go on record right now and make a decision on Nick Saban. Do you want him to coach your team or not? And stand by it, right or wrong.

Since I am used to catching hell, I will go out on the limb and be first to put my John Han**** on the Dump Saban Sheet. I am interested to see how many TRUE FANs after only ONE GAME are willing to stand out here in the heat with me?

Nick inherited a 4-12 train wreck.

This team was 3-7 last year, not 9-7 as everyone loves to believe. The six wins to end the year were a joke almost. Buffalo and the Jets stunk last year and we needed miracles to win. The Pats game had their backups in and we barely won. This was not a very good team last year but the six wins made everyone think we were playoff bound this year. False hope!

I'm not saying you're wrong and that Saban won't flame out, I'm saying it's still early and the rebuilding is just beginning.

BTW, I am also a true fan. :cooldude:

I agree with you. Last week, I was against what you were saying but now I unserstand. This team, needs a lot of help and Saban must be questioned. They were totally unprepared yesterday and this looks like a long season.

I am not ready to give up on Saban, not after less than two seasons.
Belichik looked like crap his first few seasons as the Browns head coach, but he turned it around in NE. Unlike QBs, coaches don't lose value every season.

Ah yes, the fire Saban posts are starting. Ridiculous, simply ridiculous. I would go into detail as to why your assertion is inane, but it's not worth it. By the way, the Niners are 1-1, not 2-0. Seems you put as much thought into that as you did the overall tenor of your post.

The 49ers lost to the Cardinals week one. That would make them not 2-0. So essentially you're saying there are no good coaches out there that are losing right now. Also you're saying let's dump Saban now 18 games into his pro career ensuring that no "good" coach will come to work at Miami ever because his job would be on the line after only one season. The reason Huizenga has had success hiring the guy he wants is because he gives them a real chance to prove whether they can do something. Four seasons is fair. It is painful for us fans if the coach turns out to be a bust like Wanny but you have to give a coach enough time to put his mark on the team.

It took Cowher several years to get to a Super bowl with pittsburgh and even longer to win one. They have been bad sometimes in the middle too. Saban is a good coach and if we give him a chance he'll figure things out and it will pay off. Just my opinion of course.

While I hate to defend the homewrecker in any way, Belichick had considerably less to work with in Cleveland than Saban did (and does) here.

Saban is fine. Keep him! I"m sure he'll light a fire under these guys to get them playing winning football this week. If we lose to the Titans...wow! I"d still keep Saban.

Of course, when we ran off six straight against cupcakes last year, it was all Saban's masterful coaching. Now, he just can't get the guys to play.

By the way, if we lose to the Titans, Wayne had better be on the phone with Jim Bates ASAP.

This is absurd. By you own logic, Saban at least as to the end of this year, and probably the next. I'm willing to give him 4 full years, because that's exactly how long it usually takes him to turn around franchises in his career. Saban's ability to judge talent is certainly a big improvement over Wanny, and the success of his draft picks ranks him at the very top of the league.

Culpepper was a gamble. I would've rather had Rivers, but once Brees left town that was the end of that. 2 games for a guy on a new team coming off a major injury is not enough time to conluded the experiment has failed, it simply isn't. Let's talk again in Week 10.
