few, the proud
Fullback Reagan Mauia, whose strength has drawn comparisons to a comic-book character, hopes he and three other teammates of Samoan heritage can give the Dolphins a new identity.

Fullback Reagan Mauia was drafted in the sixth round by the Dolphins last month. Once weighing 380 pounds, Mauia is now at 270.

Reagan Mauia is a proud Samoan.

The Dolphins selected Mauia in the sixth round of last month's NFL Draft and he's proud of where he is, he's proud of where he came from, and he's proud to tell the story of his journey. It started on a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, he got fat. http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/114556.html

Reagan Mauia should be a nice H-Back for us. Certainly has fire.

Although his measurables seem nice, just not convinced that Reagan has the football instincts to be the player that some people think he can be. His weight fluctuation may show a major lack of discipline and he has done nothing outstanding on the football field to show he can be elite at his position.

the reason he useed to weigh that much was because he was a defensive tackle, and they switched him to Runningback so he lost 100 pounds, how is that a lack of dicipline.

You couldn't be more off on this. Reagan's weight has not flunctuated as he weighed 370 when he played DT and he lost the weight when he was moved to offense.

In his own words
"Not too much of a secret, I would like to say discipline. You couldn't do it if you didn't really want to do it. What I did, when I first started, I started cutting off rice, all the bad food. Unnecessary carbs like rice, pasta, fats, burger places. I miss Jack in the Box. Right now I'm at the weight where I want to be, so I'm comfortable. I'm starting to eat again. My daily routine would be: I would wake up and have some vegetables and tuna, plain tuna. No nothing. And that would be for breakfast. And then for lunch probably, chicken, skinless, without any sauce on it or anything. I didn't read books or anything. I got an idea of putting in protein, high protein, high fiber. And low on your carbs.

I'm pretty sure when he was 100 pounds heavier he was not going to be a major part of thier plans at FB. 350 at six foot is downright fat no matter who you are. Here is his own quotes. Nobody gets up to 350 at six foot and is disciplined. He disciplined himself and lost the weight, lets see if he can keep it down. I'm sure though he did not just wake up at 350 one day, but he said himself he had a poor diet. If he keeps the weight off thats one thing but if balloons up he will will not be anymore of a factor than he was in his career at hawaii. He had 4 career starts and 4 tackles sp its not like he blew anybody away at Hawaii. If he works hard and stays with his diet he may have a chance to show something.

"When I started, I was playing running back last year. When I held the ball running with it wasn't comfortable. It just didn't feel right, it didn't feel natural. That's why I had a couple of fumbles last year during the San Diego State game. ... Coach Mouse (Davis) said my arms and upper body were just too big to hold the ball comfortably. I took it upon myself to lose the weight. Now when I hold the ball it feels kind of big. Bigger than it did last year. It feels comfortable. ... "

hes gonna be a beast...wanna see him run right over seau

Seems pretty simple to me. He was a 370 pound DT, then they moved him to fullback very suddenly because June Jones said his feet reminded him of Ironhead Heyward. He moved to FB and well, you don't lose 100 pounds overnight, even if you're a professional athlete. It takes at least 3 months to lose 50 pounds, and 6-8 months to lose 100 pounds...and that's double-timing it.

One thing I am NOT worried about his a lack of discipline. He worked extremely hard and lost 110lbs. That takes a lot of discipline...

He must have not been very disciplined when he was up to 350 at six feet tall

i'am so rooting for these guys to make it,that strength, attidude and unity is exactly what this team has been missing for decades,,,,a real identity,,,these guys will bring positive publicity to our team,,,the chemistry potential for our team could be phenominal.

imagine them in the locker room before a game with joey porter, jason talor and zach going freakin crazy!! I LOVE IT!

If he was playing DT... why is it so obsurd that he would get to 350? He wasnt a FB that balloned up to 350... He was a DT...
