I see a lot of posts complaining about the last drive. They were simply trying to chew as much time off the clock as possible. They did not want to give Manning another chance if he needed it. Remember last years Houston game? The argument in here was horrible clock management by leaving to much time on the clock for Houston. Same applies here. The defense couldn't stop s**t all night and the only thing they could do was move slowly and eat clock until they got to the red zone then score with minimal time left. I thought the Houston strategy was fine, score and put the defense on the field. Tonight is an example of why you don't risk the clock running out by slowing it down. The difference is they couldn't risk giving Manning a last shot. Thoughts?

I think u are totally wrong they went to the Bobby Bowden clock management school for the last 2 minutes.

Running out the clock before you score is not strategy. The Dolphins had 80 yards to go for a TD. It's not like they can say "well lets take the entire 3 minutes to go 80 yards" they NEED the points. You score, you put your defense on the field, thats just how it is. The people who last year blasted Ronnie Brown for scoring the TD against the Texans instead of taking a knee at the 1 yard line or something are just dumb. You score, leave it up to the defense to hold a lead for the short amount of time left.

I'd be willing to bet that the explanation tomorrow matches my theory. It's the only thing that makes sense. This coaching staff is to smart but this time it backfired on them.

no chance they were just trying to run out the clock before scoring. none at all. it was an excellent game except for the tackling, Teddy Bear Ginn being scared of the end zone, and the worst 2 minute offense ever. That defense must have been dead tired and yet Miami couldn't move the ball at will. I guess those 2 runs were to see if Indy was too tired to stop anybody. The boo birds will be calling for Pennington's scalp after this one. Which is too bad really, cuz he played a good game. Missed FG, 2 Teddy Bear missed TDs, and a D that couldn't stop anybody at the end of both halves. Did they think Marino was playing for Indy?

edit - I saw a replay of the final TD Ginn pass and he was definitely interfered with. I think he would have made that catch if he wasn't pushed.

ya, your theory might stand if we started the drive at the 50 yard line - not our own 20.

If we hadn't burned like 45 seconds on the first play we would've still had 30 seconds on the clock and a timeout on the colts' 30

Anyway, we lost.
