I think big part of the problem with every quaterback looking like Dan Marino against the fins is that they can't get pressure on the QB with the front four. Sanchez had 5 almost 6 seconds to throw on Sunday, it was ridiculous.

By front 4 I mean with just 4 rushers (as is the case on 3rd downs), including the OLB's.

JT has surprised me by his play but he has lost a step, I am glad roth is back so JT can rest up and play more on passing downs.

Porter has been a big disappointment this year and Wake should be getting more playing time.

Off course this puts pressure to blitz whenever you need to get to the quarterback.

Bottom line, I think we should see more Wake in game, if anything to give Porter more time off, but something has to be done because the fins cant get to the quarterback without blitzing.

edit: this was made before the new england game, but after this is evident... btw porter has been almost invisible this year, cam wake should definitely get more snaps...

Our pass rush has been pathetic the last few games. When we have the lead it seems we always go into a prevent zone defense where we are only rushing 4 and putting 7 back in coverage. I think we need to come up with some different zone blitz packages where we are forcing qb's to react quickly. The prevent defense we are using has only prevented us from winning. Our poor defensive philosophy is one of the main reasons we lost to the Saints, Chargers and Colts, and it nearly cost us the game against the Jets.

You hit it on the head. But our interior line has been getting better penetration. But I give a lot of credit to Pasqueloni because he's been dialing up a lot more blitzes lately and they're getting there. I don't think I saw Cam Wake yesterday or Charlie Anderson, they need to get their snaps

The 1st half we have been getting pressure the only problem is during half time the other team makes adjustments and we dont.
Though Starks pretty much ended the Jets game for us.
The D line on a 3-4 isnt supposed to be getting THAT much pressure but I think they have been playing fairly well

I wonder if Porter's hamstring is still bothering him. To me he looks slow out there and not getting to the QB or ball carrier.

A big problem is that we stop doing whats working. Look at Brees and Sanchez's first halves while we were blitzing. One we get leads, we stop blitzing and play not to lose. We go into the good old prevent which prevents you from winning. Brees in particular just sat back allllll day for most of the second half because we would just rush 3 or 4. it doesnt work against Brees. It made me so mad because they SAW that the blitz was throwing off Brees yet stopped doing it.

Basically, blame the D-Coordinator

I agree the D-line has played great, this post was mainly to highlight the olb's... though there should be better penetration on passing downs...

ya know what's funny? Despite the fact we don't get a lot of pressure, we are 6th in the NFL with 19 sacks.

We get good pressure when we blitz...we just inexplicably give up on it halfway through games

I was annoyed the whole second half. The Jets were sacking Henne at will, meanwhile the Phins were getting no pressure to Sanchez. I don't know if it is scheming, or not shooting the gaps quick enough, or shedding lineman, but Miami has gotten no pressure. Starks was a savior sacking Sanchez to force them to go to 4th down late in that game. He saved the game. Miami needs to get something going though cause as I see it, they need a 8-1 run and there are 3 or 4 games the rest of the way where Miami can lose to tougher opponents such as the 2 vs. NE, and then the Houston game, for whatever reason they have Miami's number late in games, and the finale with Pittsburgh.

Our LB'ers can't cover and when they don't blitz they have to drop and cover which puts us in a bad spot defensively. If they blitz the backs and TE's have to stay and pick them up or risk the QB not getting rid of the ball in time, an upside for the defense. So why do we get away from blitzing and putting our defense in situations we all know they can't handle?

In case you havent noticed, and I see you havent noticed, JT is in coverage half the time. Whether he has lost a step is not the whole picture if at all.

Alot of fin fans are always looking at the negative. Nothing in our season suggests that one game where we get stuffed means that is the way it will be.

Football is a game of matchups and chess to get the matchup. The Jets were absolutely balls to walls to beat us in front of there crowd. Give it a rest, we got the W!

Does anyone on here really think we are going to shut down T Brady all day long?

No, you pick your spots and make it happen when it counts and when you need it most.

The Oline simply needs to get going again. They had a bad game vs. Jets. I feel like they will be pumped for this one.

I think miami needs to keep the SS in the middle of the field 100% of the time. no blitzing. keep him spied on the TE and/or Welker. Just stay in the middle of the field and don't blitz him at all. and don't use him for run support unless you know it's a running down. don't bite on the play-fake. the front 7 should be able to handle the running game. IMO
