The truth is, these Dolphins are still a work in progress, a work far from complete. The Dolphins, it seems, are a team about to take a sharp turn toward the future.

The transition about to happen is most often personified by Miami's quarterback position. Chad Pennington, so consistent and solid, is the starter today.

But Chad Henne, young and promising, is the starter of tomorrow.
Anyone who doubts the transition will happen should know Pennington is in the final year of his contract and no significant talks about a new deal have happened.

That's how transparent Miami is being about their heir apparent.

Ummmmmm ok, we have a full season before we know what will happen with the QB situation... I promise you that if Pennington has another MVP type season; Chad Henne will find himself on the pine for at least another year... Henne won't be given the opprotunity to take over unless Pennington gets hurt or falters severely...

I just can't wait to get the deep ball in action! Ted ginn needs to get some seperation like Hartline seems to do.

If Pennington has another MVP type season, my expectation would be that they extend him and trade him. Thus, giving the team to Henne.

I just hope we don't have to play Appalachian State.

Nope.. I think that if he continues to brings success than we will continue with him until otherwise.. Why bring change if everything is great as it is?

well then Henne better have a pretty good game tonight, because thus far.... I wouldn't even think about putting him in over Pennington.

I'm not comfortable with Henne being the heir apparent of this team. Now QB's who sit for a few seasons usually come in and perform halfway decent, so if that trend continues, i dont think Henne will be a horrible NFL QB, however I haven't seen anything from him that would put me at ease about the future. Frankly, i'd rather develop Pat White and focus on bringing the spread to the NFL, but i'm biased because i've always liked dual threat QB's and the spread offense.

Because then you end up with a disgruntled young QB who will have spent his entire rookie contract on the bench - and when you have to redo his contract - you are going to pay dearly for someone who has no real game experience.

Also - if Pennington has another great year - he will be an 11/12 year veteran that we could trade for value.

Not against keeping him, I would just think that IF CH is proving to be ready to go - then pull the trigger and get some value from CP and realize your value in CH.

The future is actually next season. We are maybe an eight win team this year, we are probably not going to the playoffs, we probably are not winning the division, and if we did, we would probably get schooled again just like last year. The deficiencies on this team are obvious and have just started to be addressed. The offensive line, secondary and wide receivers. Until those new additions and upgrades gel, get experience and become rock solid, there is still the quarterback position. I would think it wisest to get Henne as much real game experience as possible in preparation for next year, when the Dolphins will be a serious contender. Pennington should be backing up Henne in his final year with the Fins.
