The future of the Fins tonight

It happens all the time, especially with guys who are in good situations the following year at school. Jake Locker? Matt Leinart? These guys could have done it in the age of 40 to 50 million guaranteed and passed it up and those guys had better shots of going #1 overall than Barkley does this year . . . you don't think Matt Barkley wouldn't stay?

And I think it's precisely the two guys you just brought up that are why Barkley will be very tempted to jump. They did not help themselves by sticking around.

Sure it matters, it is hardly the biggest factor though. Barkley's family has money, Barkley is very religious and I just don't think it matters as much to him. Now sure he could declare but he absolutely does not need to and being a family man, I would think being way in South Florida could actually be a negative factor in Matt Barkley declaring, if knowing what team is #2 even matters to him.

Let's be hopeful that we get a chance to draft one of these young QB's but what gives you confidence that all of this is gonna happen? You're pretty much throwing darts and hoping that it does, but truth be told I think there is a better chance Barkley stays.

That's pretty much what we're doing, isn't it? Throwing darts. It's tough to read someone else's mind. I mean, you've got to try to wonder what he's thinking, and what he thinks NFL teams are thinking. You know the Redskins want a QB, but what about the Jags, Cardinals or Vikings? They're test driving their guys right now, and who knows how long it will take for the Cardinals to realize that Kolb sucks just like every other Philly QB does once the Reid umbilical cord has been cut. Blaine Gabbert looks like junk so far, too.

Who knows? I just think that if I were him, I'd be willing to take a shot on declaring if the Colts have the #1 pick and Miami's at #2. As much as I'd love for the Colts to trade Miami the #1 pick, I got this real bad feeling that Bill Polian isn't as stupid as his terrible drafting in Indy has made him out to be.

And I do think the Dolphins would draft him. We need a QB to start from day one, and I think everyone thinks he's more ready for the pros than Jones.

And I think it's precisely the two guys you just brought up that are why Barkley will be very tempted to jump. They did not help themselves by sticking around.

I think you're overestimating where Barkley is going to go in the draft if he comes out this year. He's the third QB on almost every draftboard I have seen this year. Indy and STL won't draft a QB if they don't get the top pick. Minnesota would be the 4th pick and also would pass on Jones/Barkley since they have Ponder.

Scouts Inc. has him rated as the 18th best prospect and Kiper has him as the 10th. I think Barkley at this point would be very fortunate to be a top 5 pick.

I think if he's not assured of being a top 5 pick than he would absolutely go back to USC for one more year. Atleast I hope he would being a USC fan. His top WR Robert Woods is only a Sophomore and the 2nd WR Marqise Lee is only a freshman. Add in George Farmer and Barkley will have a lot of weapons returning next season. His stock should sky rocket if he returns as long as Luck declares.

Plus as someone has mentioned, USC will be off of their bowl ban so he'll be able to compete to play in the Rose Bowl. I think USC will be one of the favorite in the Pac 12 if he returns.

The price in picks/players for the #1 overall selection has gone up because the financial risk invested in that pick has gone down. It will cost more to move up this year than ever before. If we do it, prepare to be skinned alive and rolled down a hill of broken glass. We have to get the #1 pick the hard way, by earning it... not trading for it.

That's very possible. One thing I will say though is that Arizona, Minnesota and Jacksonville all figure to land top ten picks (as of right now), and I think that all three of those teams could very well want to draft a QB. Minnesota and Jacksonville are likely to have coaching/front office turnover, and I really don't know what's going to happen in Arizona but I can't believe anyone's going to be brave enough to give Kolb another year.

Ponder has looked good, but who knows what will happen when Zygi gets his stadium deal and cleans house?

I agree with Arizona. I think they will realize by the end of the season if they haven't already, that Kolb isn't the answer. I doubt Minny and Jacksonville draft a QB next year though. The Jags traded up for Gabbert so I'm sure even if they do switch coaches that the owner will tell the new coach to give Gabbert a shot. Ditto for Minnesota, but I don't think they'll switch coaches after 1 year.

Well some of us will be watching.. while others like me are stuck with the crappy Clemson-GT game.

I posted here a few weeks ago about a dream I had that LandryJ was under center. (with Fisher on the sidelines). Since I infrequently dream- or at least recall any, I'm not discounting that prophetic possibility. :idk:

(oh and before any brainiacs tell me what I should have been dreaming instead, like last time, it's a dream, as in "involuntary.".. duh)

The thing that really concerns me about Jeff Fisher is that he has a very Wannstedtian moustache. That concerns me greatly.

If I had such a dream, I think I would wake in a cold sweat, screaming about "looking at the film" and "making adjustments."

Glad I dont post a dream diary here. I have had some dreams that could most definitely be described as "wrong".
