So, as we all know, there are several teams in need of a qb, and basically 5 options: Manning and Flynn in free agency, Luck and RG3 as elite draft prospects, and Tannehill as the consolation prize/last seat in the game of musical chairs. Yes, there are the Ortons/Henne's/Weedons, but really, these are the main names in play.
The bottom line is that it really doesn't much matter which one we get, just as long as we get one. Each one has the potential to be their team's elite franchise qb, but each one also has the ability to be a complete bust - and nobody really knows which will do what. Manning bears just as much risk due to health issues, but is the only known truly elite qb in the group IF he recovers his old abilities. However, he's also the only one we can be pretty certain won't be playing 5 years from now.
So it's essentially a roll of the dice. What are the chances both #1 and #2 (Luck and RG3) develop into franchise qbs? Manning and Leaf, anybody? Don't dismiss Tannehill - Aaron Rogers dropped to 19 while Alex Smith went #1 - which would you want? Our own Dan Marino was not among the first qb's off the board, was he? Is Matt Flynn the next Steve Young/ Aaron Rogers who sat behind a star before getting his chance? Or is he AJ Feely and Kevin Kolb (at least he's not on the Eagles!!). And, of course, will Manning be the old Manning, or will the nerve injury simply not regenerate enough and leave him unable to perform to his old abilities? And even if he can, will he win a Superbowl within his 2-3 year window before retirement (he's only won one over his entire career)? I don't know...and neither do you.
So while we all have our own individual opinions, we can't pretend to really know. I'm just flat not going to worry about it anymore, and just be happy with whichever one we get. (Heck, Matt Moore may end up being the best of the bunch!) We'll only if we made the right decision years down the road. So pretty much whatever choice we make has an equal chance of being the right one.
Meet me here in 2-3 years to discuss the results...
