I was listening to Zach on Sirius last week...It was the day after he was released and he stated over and over that the thing you need in today's NFL is a QB...If you look at all the playoff bound teams, the one constant is a huge investment into the QB position...:err:

If Matt Ryan is being graded as highly as Manning, Rothelisberger, and Phillips (all playoff bound teams), shouldn't he be the logical pick???

That said, I'm stoked about the idea of Chris Long, Vernon Gholston or Sedrick Ellis in Dolphin colors next year as well...

The QB position is very important. I wish we could find a gem already, we've been dealt a very raw deal with QB's ever since Marino retired. I think we should have kept Feidler!! He's been our best qb so far.

Likeliehood is that we choke down a high price for one of the Longs... Dorsey is getting little love... Ellis is right there... And I believe we'll draft a QB by round 3... Alex Smith was the concensus pick too...

True about Alex Smith...And I agree, QB at the top of the draft is very risky...Especially with the money that is involved...

I know we wont go to the playoffs until we get pro bowl production at that position and if Ryan is a guy our staff believes in, I have no problem supporting the pick...

Understand we both agree..., but again it is a dollars and "sense" thing..., you sense he can but then again he will consume huge coin... While OTs already get paid huge coin and J. Long is gonna play..., whether it be RT LT he will play...

Good point... many thought Mario Williams was the bust and the great pick was R. Bush.... but Bush had the sophomore slump and Williams came on strong with 14 sacks I think.

Like how his new team, the Cowboys, invested a first rounder in Romo? Oh, wait...

I don't disagree that if you don't have one, you keep searching for a franchise QB. You just might find one late in the draft (Brady) or even undrafted (Romo). The point is to bring a guy in EVERY year, not settle for a guy like Wanny did with Fiedler and stop looking.

Matt Ryan doesn't grade out near as high you'd like, to risk a #1 pick on, but another guy in the second or later would be fine. I think Beck will develop given a better team around him, but if Flacco was there in the third, or even late second...

Conversely, the crop of FA qbs and qbs that have made an impact later in the draft says, when you have a shot at a franchise QB, you take it...

i agree that having a good to great QB is an important part of any team, but, without a good to great OL in front of that QB...what good is he if he's eating the ground all game long? also,as we've all seen before, gems can come in later rounds, regardless of the position.

The Problem is, he is not as good as Manning, Rothelisberger or Rivers.

How in the hell can anybody in there right mind fairly evaluate John Beck as a rookie when he had absolutely NOTHING around him?? Right now drafting Matt Ryan #1 overall is the dumbest thing we could do. I say right now Ryan and Beck are equal as neither has played in an NFL game (in which they have even a somewhat competitive team around them).

Sure John Beck has played in an NFL game and Ryan hasn't, when John Beck had a makeshift OLINE compiled of a bunch of has-beens, never-gonna-bees, wannabees & a rookie at center, along with a fatbutt in Chatman, Samkon Gado who looks worse than Chatman without pads, Lorenzo Booker who didn't even get on the field as much as he should have, an old a broke Marty Booker, a underachieiver and reach for a draft pick in Derek Hagan and a Rookie WR that is still learning the game and a practice squad player on any other team in Greg Caramillo?? How can you evaluate him with what he had to work with?? Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre all would have played poorly in those conditions. They may have won a few games more, but most of those wins just by experience alone!!

John Beck had one problem last year that is very correctable that really sticks out in my mind and that's fumbling the football, again very correctable. Other than that how can you gauge or evaluate his performance?? Give me a few good reasons?? Just because Cam sucked and Cam drafted him?? Ireland said himself he had Beck rated high on there board, BUT didn't need him because they had Tony Romo......

All I have to say is giving Beck another chance with a "real" team around him is no different than giving Matt Ryan that chance....the only real difference is that John Beck is already on a team not having a $50 Million dollar contract unlike what Matt Ryan would get.......

Our #1 pick should be used in 1 of 3 ways......Draft Chris Long, draft Jake Long, or trade the pick......taking Matt Ryan would be the stupidist thing we could do. Chris and Jake Long are the 2 most for sure things at #1 overall Matt Ryan is a crap shoot like most highly drafted QBs & WRs out of college.........our team has way too many needs to blow $50 million on a QB that threw 19 INTs in 14 games his senior season.......

I'm not saying that John Beck is the answer, I am saying that it's too early to judge Beck and Draft Matt Ryan when it's the dumbest thing we could do at this point.

My post didnt mention one word about John Beck...I just clearly stated that if our scouts view Matt Ryan as a franchise QB, they should take him...

I do agree with the comments about the Oline...

And the perception that QBs can be found in later rounds is just that, perception...
