I see a nice correlation between the 2002 Panthers and the 2005 Dolphins.

-They both were coming off miserable years. Panthers were 1-15 (w/ the 2nd pick because of Houston) and Dolphins were 4-12 (w/ 2nd pick)
- Fox and Saban are similar coaches, defensive minded, process oriented, in the line of Parcells and Bellichek.
-In just one season, Fox and Saban bring their clubs back to .500 (I dont think Phins will lose against NEs backups)
-During the offseason, the Panthers sign NO backup Jake Delhomme, leading to a SuperBowl season for the Panthers.

Could it be? Fox took his team from 1-15 to the Super Bowl in 2 years.. I see a similar trend with Saban. Some good offseason moves, and we could be there too. I firmly believe that.

It's honestly too early to tell, but I would love for that to be the case here in Miami. I would like to see what changes Saban does to the team over the offseason, but I think we will truly be in the playoff hunt next year and for years to come. Saban has already had an amazing first year, like Fox did, so it's definetly a possibility that we could see the Fins deep in the playoffs next year.

Although I think we'll be good next year, I don't think we'll see the true power of Saban's vision until 2007.

Thoughts? (Renamed Thread)

Excellent research, Skape. You have a great point in the speed of the turn around. How many of us called for an 8 win season this year considering the huge turnover in players, an all new coaching staff (except for one), a new defensive scheme and a new offensive scheme.

I don't remember if the Panthers went through such a big change but the resemblance is remarkable

Saban is a better scheme-oriented coach than Fox is. They both have the same fire...

huh? what the hell are you people talking about?

I like John Fox quite a bit although his teams can be inconsistant. Its not a bad comparison.

Stupid thread. I never in a million years would have compared Fox to Saban. Saban is a college coach. Fox was OC of the Giants. Not even similar situations.

LMAO.. :sidelol:

First of all, he was a DEFENSIVE Coordinator..
It is appropriate that John achieved his opportunity the old-fashioned way, beginning as a graduate assistant in 1978 and making 12 stops in 17 years before being named defensive coordinator of the New York Giants in 1997.

Secondly, how you can call Saban a "college coach" is beyond me.. If anything, he was a NFL Coach in college, and this has been parroted by many in NFL circles, including Bellicheck.

Third, The Turnarounds of the two CANNOT be disputed.. Fox' turnaround was a bit better considering the Panthers were almost winless the previous year, but Saban's feat is impressive nontheless.

And you and I both know the only reason you would term this a "stupid thread" is because of our history.. Sad.. :shakeno:

:grouplaug Open Mouth, insert foot!

Oh, and by the way Skape, I agree 100%... total attitude change on both teams... put the right pieces of the puzzle in place and there you are..

What??

Saban is an NFL coach. Coach of our own team. Remember that?

John Fox is an NFL coach. Coach of the panthers.

exactly. add in all those issues and the 2-3 possible games where we lost in the last 2 min of the game adn we are a playoff team but i hope we dont end up liek dallas did. 11-5 then 4-12 i eblieve the next year iwht the parcell era. i dont think we will but just a thought that ran across my mind right now. i do see us piciking up peterson and hutchinson most likely and that alone would upgrade 2 HUGGGGE positions and picking up drafties to fill holes and other players such as maybe sam adams or archuletta and u have a totally diff team with the returnies being in their secnod year in the def. off and evrything else involed.
