Culpepper is the starting qb going into next year, period, spending the 9th overall pick on another QB would be a waste of a pick, even if Russell or Brady fall to number 9 which i doubt they will, If the dolphins want to take a quarterback they should try and land smith as early as the second round,... I hate trading down but it would be helpful if we could aquire one or hopefully more picks in the top 4 rounds. I would love for us to follow the jets drafting strategy last year and spend two top picks on the offensive line... most draft projections dont have any OL in the top 10 with the exception of joe thomas, by trading down and getting another pick we could get two OL or get a lb late in the 1st

din`t the 2007 2nd rounder got traded fpr CP?
meaning it will be a 9th over all and then the next pick is in the 3rd round.

So, he told you he is 100%???????????

Nobody knows if he will ever come close to being what he was, we need to groom a young guy that we draft, and no I'm not saying a first rounder, unless Russel or Quinn drop in our lap, then we jump on them!

If you see a QB in the draft that you see as a very solid prospect for the future because they have all the tools and brains and character to do the job, then you draft them.

Its that simple.

Why do poeple insist that you do not draft a QB just because you have one?Especially one that has had his ACL and MCL torn to shreds?

The only way you do not draft a QB (particularly in round one) is if they are not really worth the value of where they are picked. Case and point: Joey Harrington, Aarron Rogers (have no clue why he was rated so high)

It is not an exact science but.......If you have Jemarcus Russell sitting in your lap at #9, you would be an absolute idiot not to take him. The premium on QB's over other positions is overwhelming, thats why people reach for them.

You do realize that the knee scope has pretty much fixed Culpepper's injury, right? He's not even walking with a limp anymore, let alone feeling pain in the knee. He's still rehabbing, but there's a noticeable difference between pre-scope Culpepper and post-scope Culpepper.

And keep in mind that pre-scope Culpepper attended every session of training camp and convincingly beat out Harrington and Lemon for the starting job.

I've always thought the rule was don't pass on a franchise signal caller. As of now, there's no way we can forsee how Daunte will do, and a new regime may bring in a new QB. Whether that's at pick 9 or later on, I think we've gotta draft one.

Agree. We need our new Marino !!, We have to do the same move that the Cardinals, Titans n Broncos yust did. And then DC will be a strong back up.

now days guys come back from knee injuries and if daunte would've felt comfortable in the pocket he might have had a chance to succeed, investing in the offensive line will help out the qb position... i would change my mind on drafting OL if we picked up a big free agent somewhere before the draft

Do you realize that Culpepper has not really played in two years, do you realize he just may never get back to his 2004 form. Do you know how old Lemon is??? Do you want Harrington?

We need to draft a young guy to challenge and groom. If Russell or Quinn are on the board we jump all over them, if not we take one round 2 or 3.

We'd be abso-f'in-lutely crazy to NOT draft a QB this year. I don't necessarily say we need to spend the #9 pick on a QB, but we have to take a chance on finding a franchise QB, **just in case** Duante can't regain his old form. Say what you want about Duante, but there are NO guarantees that he will recover 100% and it would be a HUGE gamble to depend on his return without trying to land a guy for the future.

IOW, if we don't draft a guy and Duante doesn't return to his old form, it's a wash for *this* season: but it puts us one more year behind in terms of finding that franchise QB.

No, he hasn't fully played in 2 years. But is that really such a large obstacle to his return? There's a reason we have two months of training camp and 4 preseason games before the regular season begins.

Cleo Lemon is 28. I want him as our backup. Or if we can send him off to a team for a high draft pick, I say send him off.

No, I don't want Harrington. I was one of the few people to call him on his poor play this entire season, and caught a lot of crap for it. But I was right. But if we send Lemon off, I have no problem keeping Harrington as our backup. Or if we manage to send both Lemon and Harrington off, then I don't have an issue drafting a QB in the second round. But I'd prefer to avoid drafting a QB this year.

We need to give a healthy Culpepper his chance. The guy is hungry. Even during rehab and being placed on IR, he attended all but one team meetings this season. He attended every game, whether on the sidelines or not. The guy is dedicated. We know he can get the job done when given the tools. Instead of writing him off, let's give him the chance to be the MVP-caliber QB we know he can be.

And let's say Culpepper really is finished, and our 2007 season sucks. Fine: we'll get a high draft pick and a shot at two of the best QBs playing college football: Brian Brohm and Colt Brennan.

But if Culpepper doesn't suck, and we use our #9 pick on a position of genuine need--LB, CB, LT--we'll be all the better for it in 2007.

regardless, its highly unlikely either russell or quinn fall to number 9, so the earliest the dolphins would draft a qb would be in the 2nd round and im not comfortable with investing a 2nd round pick on smith, unless we trade down or trade someone to aquire more draft picks.... also i think drafting a qb with a top pick could hurt the chemisty of the team, daunte has been rehabing his knee since he got to miami and has done everything he can to get back on the field and i think by drafting a qb other players on the team will look at that as a lack of loyalty from the front office

Every single year, posters' find a reason why we shouldn't draft a qb. When should we draft a qb? I think if one's there, lets draft him. Even if Cpep is healthy, let him play a few years and let the young guy learn. Every year people say we shouldnt draft a qb, well ha after the last 7 or so years struggle at the qb position, maybe we should lol. We need to draft somone to lead this franchise, plain and simple.
