The Lbs Corps

Look guys after reading a couple of fourms here today ive been reading things like; release Crowder and draft a OLB and move roth to the middle WTF????

and after watching the Steelers last night i hope our Lbs corps can be like theres soon
They have Farrior (Drafted rookie in 2-3 years i.e. Maualuga(sp?), or Spikes) Foote ( He's alot like Crowder is'nt a leader & doesn't make game changing plays but he's a sure Tackler) Harrison ( Porter isn't that old 4-5 more years on him) Woodley ( a free agent i.e. Suggs or maybe a later draft pick)

And as was previously stated...In common useage, it's "corps", as in Linebacking corps....Now, you could use "core" as in; We have a good core team this year, but need more pieces.

Well one issue I see is if you are calling Crowder a sure tackler. He not only doesn't make big plays, he is out of position may times leading to big runs, and he doesn't wrap many times which allows the bigger backs to break free.

It's simple - the FO offered to pay him as one of the lowest paid starting LB's because that is what he is talent wise. Very good backup or maybe if he was lined up next to Ray Lewis his play would be okay as a starter but we don't have a dominant ILB already. We have to good backup ILB's in Akin and him on the team. You don't become the Ravens or Pitt D with talent like we have at LB.

There is NO WAY we don't change things up at safety and LB - NO WAY!

I'm not comparing them i'm saying how i think our Lbs corp will be in a couple of years

crowder probably has one foot out the door. after calling our only offer to my knowledge a special teams player offer... that will only accomplish one thing and that is getting under BP's nerves.

we can anybody to JUST tackle. we need more talent at LB and definately a few more big plays from our guys in the middle.

something is not right when your safety is your leading tackler.

need to get younger at DT, find a stud ILB and a ballhawk CB as well as a top tier safety to go opposite bell.

it could very well be up to 3 years before we have all these things in place. so get your patience pants out and get comfy.

The problem is with the exception of crowder none of our linebackers have long term futures here and Crowder may not if we dont resign him. Porter has two years left on his contract and will basically be a hitman to the highest bidder. Dont forget Pitt dropped him because they knew he would be a distraction and Parcells usually doesnt pay his mid 30's guys alot of money. Roth if he can become better might be a fixture and Akinole was basically saved from getting cut by Dallas. We need to get some youth in here with some talent.

yea anybody can tackle lol. The safety is the leading tackler because Crowder missed a game and Crowder is basically surrounded by medicore run stopping linebackers. Another reason that bell had so many tackles is we dont have alot of quality at corner. Seriously its not that strange for a S to lead a team in tackles. But of course Crowder gets all the blame for this for some reason.

crowder would be ok as the 2d MLB/ILB ... his play does not warrant top LB pay - so, if that is his goal ... it is very doubtful that he will continue his career in MIA

LB is a serious area of need for us - and i maintain that LB & DB are our priority draft and FA positions .... not forgetting C and NT

Matt Roth and Akin Akinole need to be replaced well before Crowder. Should Crowder be the top paid MLB in the league , hell no but a contract similar to the one that Starks or Smiley got is well in line would you not say. Neither of these guys are the best in the league at thier position either.

or maybe bring better support at LB and he becomes a better number one. None of the other three are even close to being very good against the run.

Obviously tackling WAS an issue all season long... I saw more whiffs out there then at a 4 year olds tee ball game. Singling out Crowder as being the sole reason for this is wrong... agreed.

But the fact is when a safety whose last name is not Lott is the leading tackler on a team, then the LB's DO need to stand and be made accountable. Regardless of Crowder missing a game Bell was the leading tackler for the bulk of the season... not good. Do not forget that the 3-4 is a LB friendly system.

Also, hard tackling corners are a luxury in the game today and truthfully Allen is a good tackler and blitzer. Putting any kind of emphasis on the corners to explain suspect LB play is well... wrong.

For me Crowder was a frustrating player to watch... Just when I thought he was 'locking in' he would disappear... Bottom line he was INCONSISTENT... BP knows LB's and i would have a hard time believing he would shell out premium money for a guy who disappears for long stretches.
