Jake Long is one tough SOB. He plays, and plays well, through injuries that would sideline other guys. Now wrapping up his third season, Long has turned in another Pro Bowl effort on a bad wheel since August, together with an injured shoulder he suffered several weeks ago.
It's very impressive stuff, which is why I am becoming more and more convinced that he is the greatest left tackle in team history. When his career is done, he may even be regarded as one of the best left tackles in NFL history.
Yeah, he’s that good. It’s what you want from the first overall pick in the NFL draft. It’s why the critics who question the decision to draft Long over QB Matt Ryan are clueless.
With the playoffs officially shot, now is the time to think about Jake Long’s future. He needs shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, a process requiring six to eight months of recovery. He probably needs knee surgery as well.
