Did he call his own plays in Denver and Chicago.

Forgive me if it's been stated in other threads, but I did not see it definitively mentioned. I can't seem to shake this Philbin-esque feeling with this hire, but I will give Gase the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise. I understand all the fans negative reaction because we've been down this road before, but he'll be our coach, so I will support him until he gives me reason not to.

He has my full support, now lets turn this thing around!

And hey, at least it's not Marrone or Mangini. That's the biggest reason I approve of this hire.

And at least it's Ross' first choice. IIRC Philbin was hired after others turned the job down or were hired by other teams.

If you start to connect the dots.. (total speculation)

1) A 'committee' is formed its stated MT will be leading it.
2) Mike Smith is brought in for an interview first (DC coordinator hasn't interviewed for any other HC jobs)
3) Somehow the media finds out Ross' first choice is Gase before the process started
4) Gase is back in town to negotiate

The Smith interview was really for the DC job they needed to lock down a legit DC before hiring an offensive minded coach (who seems to be respected by some legit people)
So Gase will be the HC and essentially the OC the D can be completely handed off to Smith as DC.
Hue Jackson might be great and all but probably to risky given his clash with mgmt in the past.
Gase/Smith will be low key and hopefully very effective. I think the lack of HC experience for Gase is a red flag I think we've learned what OJT for an NFL HC looks like but Ross is scratching the checks... fingers crossed Gase's wheels don't fall off when he has to manage an entire team.

Philbin's situation was uniquely ridiculous. Gase's path was the more conventional OC role and yes he called the plays though I mean when he was coaching Peyton that doesn't mean quite as much since Manning essentially runs the offense. This isn't as much a parallel with Philbin as it is if we'd gone the McCoy route. Only Gase is less seasoned and accomplished. So we have a lesser McCoy.

Yes he did. He called the plays for the 2013 Broncos offense that broke the NFL record for points scored. He called the plays for the 2014 Broncos offense, including signaling in to Peyton from the sideline to change the play on the game-winner against us last season. He called the plays for the 2015 Chicago Bears offense.

He's young, but he has been a coach for 17 years. This man has better chops than the last bum we hired, make no mistake about it.

The last guy we hired was a glorified secretary.

We should of kept Campbell as head coach and just hired him great coordinators.

lesser in experience and accomplishment. what if he is a better, more talented, coach?

Just for the record, Philbin had been coaching for 27 years when we hired him.
