Pat Riley needs to write a book on how to run a sports franchise. The first copy of that book should be given to the Miami Dolphins.

So trading away all the draft picks and trading for players work in the NFL? Show me one team like that.

"Acquire best player in NBA for 4 years, then give big money to a pretty good player, have a bad start to the year then trade away a lot of draft picks for another pretty good player"

Sound right?

Also can't compare the NBA and the NFL with player personal movements.

Does Riley know anything about football? Honestly even if he doesn't, I'd probably still trust him to run the Dolphins more than the people that actually run the Dolphins.

Relax guys, it was a joke. But I think three championships in a 10 year span and constantly being relevant. A place where free agents wants to play are the things that I were talking about. Obviously I realize it is two different sports.

I agree with you on the NBA and NFL being incomparable in regards to personnel decisions, but you are kidding yourself if you want to take away what Riley has done here as a GM with that BS you just said. :bobdole:

Yeah he's built a good team for years now, I'll give him that, but to say he's some personal god like some people think he is and that he can do the same in the nfl is laughable

I don't believe anyone in their right mind truly believes that. However this guy is definitely elite at what he does, and Cleveland owes everything good that has happened to them because of LeBron James being born and growing up in Ohio. That organization is so horribly run that it seems criminal that they were rewarded the roster they have right now.

I actually gave him to much credit, Wade had more to do with LeBron joining than Pat Riley.

Was Pat Riley not in Miami back in '03?

you need to go read what Riles did in LA.. then MIA.. he learned from one of, if not The Best, Mr. Jerry West.. and winning championships from any pro sport, is all the comparison necessary. said lovingly.. as a former Lakers employee

Apples & Oranges.....not to say the Dolphin have been run well....but your talking diiferent situations with a much smaller roster.

UGH not again.... NBA is so much different than running an NFL team.

NBA all you need is 2-3 top guys and role players throughout and you have a championship caliber team. u can even have the players bring themselves in in the offseason to help too. the draft is helpful, but how often do you have your guys around in the NBA? players always bouncing around, trading.

NFL you need depth as well as 11 cohesive starters on both sides of the ball. its so much harder and different. you need to be able to build and develop out of the draft.
