Whaooo!!!! But its tricky..
On the surface, it looks like the Dolphins are $20,815,773 under the cap and recently signed star players like Reshad Jones ($3.7 M), Kenny Stills ($3.75M), Kiko Alonso ($2.84M)and Lawrence Timmons($3.78M) are making less than $15M combined and less than $5M each in 2017. Then you take a look at their 2018 salaries and your eyes pop out. In 2018, Reshad Jones ($11.58 M), Kenny Stills ($9.75M), Kiko Alonso ($9.64M) and Lawrence Timmons($8.23M) are making about $40M combined and around $10M each. In other words, they are getting about a $25M raise collectively. How does that impact the cap?
Players with huge potential cap saving numbers in 2018 include Byron Maxwell ($10M in potential saving and zero dead money), Mike Pouncey ($7M in saving and $2M in dead money), Cameron Wake ($8.12M in saving and $500K in dead money), and Julius Thomas ($6.6M in saving and zero in dead money). Cutting all of them has the potential saving of another $31.72M. With an estimated dead money hit of about $2.5M, the total net saving will be $29.22M. In other words, if the Dolphins wanted to go in different direction they can potentially have $87.02M in cap space to play around with.
