Perspective on the 2014 season. From a drinking POV, of course.
So.
There's a storm coming. I mean this in two ways.
First:
I live in the Pocono Mountains, and we're going to get railed with up to 18" of snow tomorrow. I'm finishing up a bottle of Jacob's Creek Shiraz, because it gives my wife a headache. And nobody wants that. Anyway. I have a case of Stegmaier Winter Sampler in the fridge. I have three growlers; 1) Brooklyn Chocolate Stout. 2) Kronenburg 1664. 3) Barley Creek Antler Brown.
My snowblower is on standby, in case my neighbor and his plow can't get it taken care of. I'm ready to rock and roll. Bring it, Winter, you #####.
And I sit back and think about the second storm.
Second:
I have absolutely no expectations for 2014. Really. I don't.
I hope the Dolphins will do well, of course. But...I just don't have any clue. Here's a three-pronged outlook for 2014:
1) Steven Ross is trying to do the right thing. And, honestly, that's more than a lot of owners. The giant-eared looney toon might not be very GOOD at it, but heck, he's trying.
2) What hurts #1 is that Ross is way, way, WAY too loyal to people he views as "good people." And this, above all else, is why I think Philbin is still employed. If I owned the Dolphins, I would have cleaned house the day the season ended. But...I don't own the Dolphins. And I have no idea what's going to happen. Maybe Bill Lazor fixes the offense. Maybe Coyle doesn't suck as much as I'm afraid he does. Maybe Ross is right in sticking with Philbin. I'm pretty sure he isn't.
But I've been wrong before.
3) I'm pretty sure that if the Phins finish .500 or worse again, EVERYONE gets fired. So...I'm gonna walk in to Opening Day 2014 with a bottle of bourbon and watch the storm.
My attitude: "Okay, #######, show me what you've got." I have NO idea what's gonna happen. But I'm gonna watch. If nothing else, it should be interesting.
Go Fins.
