The Miami Dolphins have offered QB Alex Smith a Multi-Year Deal

I wouldn't be opposed to the team signing Smith. At 27, I think he's yet to reach his peak. Not only did he have an effective season last year, he had one hell of a postseason...his first playoff games, mind you...throwing for nearly 500 yards and 5 TDs/0 Ints. He definitely didn't lose that NFC Championship game. If it weren't for his kick/punt returner, he takes his team to the Super Bowl in his first postseason appearance. Not too bad.

I agree, it'll be nice to have some playoff experience on the team. I haven't seen much of his film beyond last year, but I don't believe he can just regress back in terms of his play at the young age of 27. It seems he can run the WCO offense and this 2-3 year situation will be just long enough to get a grip on what our offense will look like, let a younger QB develop, and get coach Philbin comfortable on what some of our less obvious needs are. I just can't imagine another year of QB limbo and an entire season of doubts and questions.

of the options i've heard such as garrard or a hasselbeck this is definitely the best one...but i'm deathly afraid that we're gonna end up in a bad contract here and not be able to get out from under it any time soon...deathly afraid of it...ireland loves these safe qbs who can take care of the ball and not lose the games for you...but they don't win many of em for you either...glorified slightly elevated at his peak care taker qb here

Smith helped his team get within one win of the SuperBowl...........when was the last time the Dolphins had that?

Until last year, he was on the outs, labeled as a #1 bust. Is that because he didn't meet #1 overall pick expectations or he was just not all that great?
This team is really reaching. I hope Smith keeps geting better, but i disagree that he is better than Moore right now.

Alex Smith was considered a bust every year until last because he never had a bonafide coach to help him imo. If Philbin can do the same for him like Harbaugh did, I am all for it. Singletary was far from a qb coach.

Its sad that Dolphins are Smiths Plan B. Plan A is to run back to the 49ers as soon as Manning goes to Denver or Tennessee. Manning wants to win super bowls but he will end up telling everyone that family comes first.

Remember Payton played for the colts and Elis agent forced a trade to the NFC or the Giants. Why becasue of the potential friction it may cause the brothers competing against each other the stress it would cause the family. Thats why Eli is a Giant today.

Alex Smith is not a very good qb IMO. His team was loaded with talent on the Defensive side of the ball..The 49ers had the worst red zone offense in the NFL...They won because of the D...Not saying Alex cant make plays cause he can but he is not a franchise guy not even close..I think Moore would beat him out for the job.

He and Vernon Davis single-handedly beat the Saints when his defense was getting run over by the Saints in the NFC Divisional Game last year. Also, if it wasn't for two boneheaded special teams blunders, he would've lead his team to the Super Bowl in his first ever postseason. Not a bad job if you ask me.

I don't want Alex Smith at QB. What makes the Dolphins think that he is any better than Matt Moore or Matt Flynn? He was terrible prior to last year and he still had a lot of bad games last year that they were able to win because of their defense and running game.
