Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Dolphins didn’t call the Bengals for information about the man who spent 10 seasons with the franchise, eight of them with coach Marvin Lewis.

“They’re going to make a determination,” Lewis told Reedy. ”There is no downside for them. Chad obviously had a great career here and I know he would be excited about that opportunity.”

Of course, the fact that the Bengals traded Ochocinco with a year left on his contract possibly says it all.

Then again, the Dolphins made the move even though Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle arrived in Cincinnati with Chad in 2001, and Coyle worked for the team for the entirety of Chad’s tenure.

Still, Coyle didn’t work with the offense. Lewis and former/current Bengals assistant Hue Jackson did.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski did, too, and the fact that Jacksonville made no play for Ochocinco could be the brightest red flag of all.

I can't believe the efforts some people in the media take to bash every move the Dolphins make.

Guy is a douche plain and simple... Just trying to generate traffic to his site, and well everytime he says something about the fins it gets the majority of us all hot and bothered. So I guess he's doing his job. I think he's still upset we cut his hero Pat White loose so quickly

It's laughable they way he attempts to put everything Dolphins in a bad light.
He mentions how they didn't talk to Cincinnati, but notes Coyle spent ten seasons with him.
He says the fact that the Jags didn't call raises a big red flag, but quotes Lewis saying there is no downside for Miami.
the guy is bending over backwards to bash, even if it means contradicting himself

While we received a lot of unfair criticism over the Fisher, Manning, and Flynn ordeals, I believe the media is right this time in saying we were desperate for WR help.

I guess The Patriots were too last year right?!

Everything in that article contridicted himself....Marvin Lewis praised OC (Florio...but we all know he doesn't know jack about a guy he coached for 8 years.) Coyle was there the whole time too (Florio...he doesn't count because he was only the DC and we know they have no freaking idea what the other half is doing :p.) (Florio...Jaguars didn't make a move so he MUST be a reach.) Really?! A team that just drafted a Receiver as high in the draft as they did didn't get another receiver?! and its the F-ING Jaguars...this is a huge JOKE

The Pats get the benfit of the doubt w/ everything b/c they WIN. The Ocho move was a bad one for them but they made the Super Bowl. When Miami starts to win consistently the media coverage will skew towards positive.

Agree.. Not that it matters.. but... I dig your posts nyjunc. I don't always agree but I like the Jet/Dolphin venom that you and the other posters share back and fourth. I definitely see you as biased for the Jets as our fans are for the Phins -- but most of the time I think you bring up fair points.

Could be the brightest red flag of all. Hm, sounds like complete opinion to me. And if Johnson turns out to have a decent year, then what?

A dime a dozen ambulance chaser who obviously couldn't make a living on "slip and falls" so with no credentials or qualifications other than being as much of a douchebag as some of his fellow basement bloggers, he decided to reinvent himself. Can't say he didn't do a bad job and now maybe he can even tell his azz from his elbow - but maybe not.

No, the Patriots were wrong, and the media has criticized them for it as well. We are next.

And about the Marvin Lewis comment, Lewis has publicly called Ochocino lazy and unfocused before he was traded (and 85 responded by challenging his coach to a televised cage match on TNA). They had a well publicized spat for years. Lewis was just being professional in that statement.

The point being, in my post, that nothing in that article even made a single attempt at an educational argument. I personally didn't LIKE the signing the OC, and had a thread I started before we even fancied the idea of working him out about how much I would dislike the courting of him. Here is my argument...the article made NO SENSE. he contraindicated himself the whole time.

There are many people on here who could argue that the OC move was bad in a much more convincing manner, such as yourself. Florio's post is a joke.

What exactly was the point is this article by Florio? The Dolphins didn't call the Bengals for their opinion? Did the Broncos call and talk with Colts coaches and front office staff on Peyton Manning? Did the Bills have discussions with the Texans about Mario Williams? Who calls player's former teams to get opinions on possible free agent signings? Seems like he is reaching to put something in story form.

Also, the Jaguars didn't talk with him? So what, he signed just days after getting cut with the team that has obviously been at the top of his list for years. A few years ago in Cincy he went on TV and said "Hey Parcells, call me." Mark Duper was his childhood hero and someone he looked up to. He lives in Miami and used to go to Dolphins games during Bengals bye weeks. Who knows how many teams would have expressed interest if he let the process play out. He had the Dolphins eyed up the minute he got released and didn't care about going to any other team.

The Patriots should be criticized with how they handled Ochocinco. They gave up two draft picks and will have spent $10 million on him over the course of three seasons. The Dolphins got him for the vet minimum that only increases if he hits some big time incentives. Heck, the Patriots are paying him twice as much in 2012 as the Dolphins are.
