The Mike Florio Dolphins Bashing Tour Continues...

We have many fans on this site guilty of the very same thing. Not really sure how long many have been around but like I have posted many times before prior to Ireland going all the way back during the Shula years Irelands drafts have equaled and generally out performed all other GM's we have ever had Jimmy Johnson drafts might be the only ones withstanding and it took a few years even after he left to really evaluate them. There have been so many first round busts over the years. The biggest difference between the Shula years and all the rest is Shula could coach much of the talent up so he covered up a lot of flaws in the past drafts. Just like Parcells says when you do not buy the groceries its not fair to judge the final product the same goes for the guy who does buy the groceries but does not cook the final product. Interesting how so many fans and even non fans of Ireland are happy with this years draft so much compared to past drafts. Maybe the cook/coach simply gave Ireland a new and different grocery list to purchase from than in the past.

The Patriots should be criticized with how they handled Ochocinco. They gave up two draft picks and will have spent $10 million on him over the course of three seasons. The Dolphins got him for the vet minimum that only increases if he hits some big time incentives. Heck, the Patriots are paying him twice as much in 2012 as the Dolphins are.

Yes it is interesting that you are NOT hearing how suddenly Bill B has become a idiot for spending so much for so little return. Based on the number of draft picks that they are able to accumulate by trading they get a A but the production of many of those draft picks based on what round they were taken falls in the C - D catagory IMO.

What exactly was the point is this article by Florio? The Dolphins didn't call the Bengals for their opinion? Did the Broncos call and talk with Colts coaches and front office staff on Peyton Manning? Did the Bills have discussions with the Texans about Mario Williams? Who calls player's former teams to get opinions on possible free agent signings? Seems like he is reaching to put something in story form.

Also, the Jaguars didn't talk with him? So what, he signed just days after getting cut with the team that has obviously been at the top of his list for years. A few years ago in Cincy he went on TV and said "Hey Parcells, call me." Mark Duper was his childhood hero and someone he looked up to. He lives in Miami and used to go to Dolphins games during Bengals bye weeks. Who knows how many teams would have expressed interest if he let the process play out. He had the Dolphins eyed up the minute he got released and didn't care about going to any other team.

I agree with you completely. Ochocinco is a known quantity, and the Fins have tons of film on him, so they know what he can do. Furthermore, it's NOT like they're trading for him; they signed him as a FA to a 1 year deal.

And he wanted to play for the Fins not for Jacksonville. Maybe Florio doesn't realize that Miami and Jacksonville are very different places ... like San Diego/San Francisco or Buffalo/NYC or Pittsburgh/Philadelphia or Dallas/Houston or Cleveland/Cincinatti. Just because they're in the same states doesn't mean that the cities are much alike.

And really what the hell would the Bengals have said? Why would they even have taken a call from the Dolphins to give them insight? They're a rival AFC team for crissakes

Here is my argument...the article made NO SENSE. he contraindicated himself the whole time.

And I never defended the article. I defended the general media and their criticism of the Ochocino signing, which I agree with.

The Patriots have been criticizing for giving up too much for him. But giving up that much doesn't hurt a Super Bowl team like it would us, and the mistake will get glossed over. Because the Patriots consistently win, they can move past mistakes like that much faster while losing franchises like Miami are still debating about mistakes like drafting Jake Long over Matt Ryan 5 years after they happened.

And then we changed the story lines...The Patriots were starting to get ripped over Chad Johnson and we then we get them out of the spotlight by signing him.

No, the Patriots were wrong, and the media has criticized them for it as well. We are next.

And about the Marvin Lewis comment, Lewis has publicly called Ochocino lazy and unfocused before he was traded (and 85 responded by challenging his coach to a televised cage match on TNA). They had a well publicized spat for years. Lewis was just being professional in that statement.

I dont know what to think of the 85 signing.. !!! Chad was a feared receiver in the league, that much we know.. However the list of critics that bad mouth him are growing by the day.. Could there be some truth in what they are saying? Is Chad really too stupid to read the field and memorize the playbook?

IF we give some benefit of doubt to the critics... Does that mean Philbin and the Dolphins are stretching to find a weapon that can run routes and catch the ball? Or do they know something that we... and the rest of the NFL doesnt know?

Assuming the Dolphins are desperate... What does that say about Philbin and the future of the team? Are we entering the season with another wanna be head coach that doesnt know his head from a hole in the ground?

I will give the Dolphins a lot of credit for signing him at the vet minimum.. but at the same time, its getting scary to think that we're in for more stumblin and bubblin for the next few years..

sigh

I think the only reason why they bad mouth him is because we signed him. If he wasnt with a team, he wouldnt be in the media much past his release from NE.

What? Clearly the facts that they stole Wes Welker from us and started using him properly, drafted Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez while we drafted Koa Misi and John Jerry, played in a super bowl while we went 6-10 mean nothing. What really matters is that they paid more for Chad Ochocinco after a decent season than we are for him after a terrible season. Don't you know anything about being a true Dolphins fan?

I hate Florio. Cannot believe NBC still employs him.

Geezh give it a break we got the guy for nothing, we can let him go for nothing if we do not like it after we kick his tires. I know some of your liked the college FA Derek Moyek kid from Penn State but really at this point thats all that has happened. Give the coaching staff a chance to see if they can harness that production. You never know with a different coach some players respond differently and some coaches have the ability to game plan more around a particular players talent than others. Heck they might let him go next week. If nothing else maybe some of these young recievers will figure out that if he can do it they can do it because they can comprehend the playbook better. Sounds like the guy is a pretty hard worker downstairs but just does not have a whole lot up stairs. So maybe some of these young guys just need to learn to try harder thats the story behind Bess he stays real late catching extra balls from a machine everynight and the same thing with Zach Thomas he outstudied most of NFL to become a eleite linebacker.

Why in hell do people care what anyone says?
Relax and quit worrying about this stuff.
You'll live longer.

I see the rose-colored glasses are beginning to come off....welcome to the "dark side."

I have not said much about Philbin, because I am reserving judgement on him. Maybe he will be good...but right now, he better be the next Don Shula or this team is in for at least another 3 years of crap teams...
