I was worried as much about this team heading in 2011 as anybody. But the more I look at our team and its players I have realized that this team has potential to be at the very least a tough team to play. Our defense features in my opinion one of the best from 7s in football right now.

We have great talent on the line and with Odrick returning I think him, mcdaniel, starks, langford and even merling will provide us a great rotation of DEs. Paul Soliai seems like he is really becoming an almost elite NT. Not quite yet but if he continues to progress then he will be our cog in the middle.

Our linebackers feature Karlos Dansby who quietly had a very good season for us and is a pro. Kevin Burnett is a sneaky upgrade that went kind of unoticed. He gets turnovers and is usually in a good position to make plays. Koa Misi is a beast and is a relentless worker. And of course we have Cameron Wake. This guy just doesnt stop moving, he was at the top in sacks, tackles for a loss and he is somebody that all offenses prepare for. I think he will have another big season givin that he continues to put in the effort that he has and works a little on his technique. Then there is Jason Taylor, is he the DPOY of 06? No. Is he a great pass rusher? Maybe. But he still is always accounted for and no matter what you say about him, he is always around the ball.

Our secondary is a little bit questionable considering we still have young corners but Vontae and Sean Smith has progressed nicely. I think both can be very good corners, not quite like Madison and Surtain were but they are not a huge concern. Our safeties are a little be concerning because Yerimiah Bell does still get beat deep and our FS is still not settled.

Offensivley we are a really boom or bust situation. Reggie Bush is talented and makes plays however he will not ccarry the load as a RB. Daniel Thomas could be a pounder and provide us with a good back in short yardage situations. Receiving wise we have talent. Brandon Marshall put together a solid season and ive never seen a WR rteach 1000 yards so easily. If he puts it together this year, he iwll return to his denver form. Davonne Bess is our difference maker. He has some of the best hands in all of football. Never drops a pass, never shys away. He is a little small but I think he could be the next WEs Welker. Fasano is the incumbent TE and unfortunatly an upgrade would have been nice but it didnt happen. Will he return to thbe Fasano of 08? I dont think so but he can still make some plays and is still good in the redzone. Our offesnive line features some very talented players and guys who if they put it all together will be very good for us. Long is a beast and the best LT in football. Pouncey should be very good. Incognito did solid last year and I think he will be more comfortable. Carey moving inside will help us tremendously. Colombo is still a vet o lineman that can play.

It call coems down to our QBs. I think we will be competetive if we get a QB that will not make mistakes and lead our weapons. WE dont need a guy who can throw the ball 40 yards downfield and hit the deep pass all the time. We need someone that will put the ball in the right place for our playmakers to make players after the catch.

agreed...suprise team we are.if chad plays "decent".we can go anywhere with this talent and thats not drinking the teal and orange kool-aid

What I like about JT being back and I hope he embraces his role kind of like Trace Armstrong when JT first entered the league. Teach and concentrate on getting to the QB when you need to. I think he can excel in this role. He has every trick in the book.

Bush to me could very well be a guy who could handle the role. That's not what the Saints do. I think he could get tons of touches this year and really cause trouble for opposing defenses. I can't wait to see him work. I'm most worried about RT. I hoping Murtha can move there and play well as he seems to have played alright at LT so far. Can't wait to see how they perform in the preseason.

The Miami Dolphins are comparable to former Spur Bruce Bowen, all Defense no offense.

13-3. Guaranteed

Here's our biggest challenge - we have arguably 2 of the top 5 teams in football in our division and therefore have to play them a combined 4 times this year.

If we can split against NE and NY i think we'll have a solid year. If not, expect a new regime, new QB, new OC next year.

Dolphins will definitely be a tough team to play, but QB play will inevitably torpedo any realistic chances they have at contention.

pretty fair statement. To me our season relies on 2 things A)QB play and B)Causing Turnovers. As good as the D was last year, we didn't get a lot of turnovers. And I've said this a bunch of times, if our HC and OC can trust our QB, whether Henne, Devlin, Moore, O'Connell, or sum bum off the streets, to score TDs and not always kick FGs, we can compete.

Kinda surprised that there have been more "optimism" threads! Really like that!

I'll argue that. Jets suck and in the last two years we're 3-1 against them.

We need to figure out how to beat the Patriots without the wildcat (which is a dead).

Honestly, this team vividly reminds me of the 2006 Dolphins.

Shut down defense with an exceptional pass rusher and a great inside linebacker and a mastermind for a defense coordinator, a pro-bowl wideout, a underrated slot receiver, a young first round tackle that we expect to erase opposing pass rushers, and a young running back that we hope will be able to carry the load.

Only difference is that year we traded for a former franchise quarterback. This year we hope Henne will become a franchise quarterback. It all does come down to quarterback in this league, and if Henne plays around the same level he did last season our season will fall apart.

Many on this board are preparing for the playoffs and drooling over our roster. Many, myself included, are hoping for a turn around but will not be surprised if we implode. Like that year our defense will prevent us from picking first overall or even around that range. Like that year, our defense will not be able to prevent us from having a losing season.

I agree with the OP. The more I see it, the more I'm cautiously confident in this team. Like someone said, causing more turnovers could make a huge difference compared to last year and there's no way that this defense will not cause more TO's than last years defense when you take account of:
1- clear upgrade at ILB with Burnett and Edds for passing downs.
2- 1 more year of experience for our young CB's
3- Reshad Jones starting at FS, this guy has just a knack for finding the football.
4- An awesome Dline rotation who will stuff the run and make opposing Qb's hurry their throws more than usual.

If we cause more turnovers, pressure will be less intense for Henne and the rest of the offense so he will hopefully improve to an OK QB.

My main concern is the running game, Thomas has talent but he's a rookie and Bush is injury-prone. If Bush gets injured again, we're becoming razor-thin at RB unless Hilliard, Sheets or Grigsby miraculously becomes an Arian Foster which we better not count on.

I actually like Ryan Fitz and believe at present he's the 2nd best QB in the division. HOWEVER, one good year does not necessarily negate years of previous suckage just like one discouraging year of Henne does not necessarily obliterate the fact that this time last year he himself was considered by many to be the 2nd best QB in the division. So let's not jump the gun just yet, eh?

Henne's never been a winner though..and don't give me his college record in the neutered Big 10 conference--his record against OSU is all that matters in that craptastic conference. He's perfected the art of the 6-yard pass, granted--but I'm just not seeing anything that resembles a starting QB on a contender. There's absolutely no evidence.
