The players didn't seem like they WANTED it... They were listless, joyless, completely lacking in emotion.

The Jets players and coaches were jacked up, excited!

How is it that the team that had nothing to play for were more excited to be there than the team that had everything to play for?

OJ McDuffie and Troy touched on this as well earlier today on Finsiders. OJ was especially bothered by their lack of fire.

Doesn't this speak highly to the lack of leadership and quality coaches on this team?

Teams take on the demeanor of their head coach!Which tells me Joe was a horrible blocker and/or tackler.

How do you explain those teams that really don't have firey coaches in public but the win? OR those team that have firey coaches but the results don't translate into winning? How do you explain that??

who?

It isn't belichick. He goes over to the bench and coaches offense/defense during the game.

It isn't the Harbaugh brothers.

It's not Payton. It's not McCarthy. It's not Coughlin. Not Gruden. Not Cowher.

maybe Dungy but it's been so long, who remembers his sideline demeanor.

So... who?

Name them.

Lax, you raise a good point... Can anyone recall a time where they saw Philbin go over and have a talk with a position group during a game? Heck, I can't even remember seeing him have a chat with Tannehill on the sidelines in his 2 years here. All I ever see him do is stand there with a flummoxed expression on his face or yell at a ref occasionally. He might as well be a mannequin during the game

Lovie Smith and Dungy are the only HCs I can recall that have that Prozac air about them that ever managed any success in the NFL.

Leslie Frazier was also of Philbin's type and he was just dumped.

I agree. I am a Tannehill supporter, but seeing him smiling and joking with Moore in the 4th quarter was heartbreaking. Thought Moore was more professional and he is all Tannehill has to learn from. The fans had more fire than these guys, and that it due to lack of leadership and coaching. As much as Philbin doesn't want anyone to step on his toes, if he is back next year, this team needs captains. Screw the leadership council. We can't let leaders walk and just pick guys to replace them. Signing Grimes and Soliai is not just important because of performance but for leadership and continuity in that locker room.

I'm a philbin guy but after seeing what the OP pointed out, I'm not sure anymore. The coach needs to motivate these players and i'm not sure if philbin can do that. That was a pathetic performance against the jets and bills with playoffs on the line. it was almost like the players just couldnt wait to get home for the off season.

Started a post about Philbin's lack of interaction with his players on Sundays yesterday. The man never speaks to his players during the game. He's a joke. You barely see him talking on his headset. Belichick never stops teaching, he is constantly engaged with his players.

Anybody see the video of the Jets players when Rex was told they are bringing him back??? That would never happen with Philbin

The opening where he walked out of the tunnel by himself with the blank stare was priceless

I agree, as much as I point a finger at Brady and even laugh at some of his perceived bitchiness, I love his fire. You would never see Brady yuk king it up when their azz is being handed to them. Heck, he usually runs to the locker room and looks pissed in his post games after a loss. That's what I want out of Tannehill.

I disagree with this. What's so special and badass about John Harbaugh, Tony Dungy, Mike McCarthy and Bill Belichick?

Well for one they actually "coach" the team and make adjustments during the game to get the advantage. This is what coaches do or are supposed to do and I think most, if not all winning coaches do these type of things.

The coaching staff deserves the blame for the way the team played on the field. Yes, the coaching staff does not miss a block, or drop a pass, but they play an important part nonetheless.

What bothered me the most yesterday was no urgency in their play. You would think that they would be amped to play, considering what was on the line, but I did not see it. The players are the ones playing the game, but its the coaches job to motivate their players at times, and you just never saw that from this coaching staff.
