What I really like about this guys is his thoroughness, I mean he figured out his right tackle in James and picks him. No bull no fancy stuff just right. He didn't get cute with the draft or the free agency. Even the cuts were almost predictable. No surprises means no holes to fill.

Compare that to you know who, JI. He traded BM, no replacement. Lost Jake Long,no replacement. Reggie Bush not replaced neither. His signees as well as his draftees are always mediocre. His cuts are always as shocking and perplexing as his roster moves. His best moves is always creating a bigger hole while trying to fix one, no wonder the team only had one winning season under his watch.

Anyway didn't mean to beat the dead horse just glad its all over. You have to admire the job Ickey is doing so far,you just have to hope it all translate nicely to winning.

HERE IS WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY AND A GREAT FOOTBALL SEASON! GO PHINS!!

Definitely a breath of fresh air...I just hope he keeps up on his Tic-Tacs.

Dennis has been solid, but does he get enough time to keep working with his roster? if the team does not progress this year I say "no" and he and Joe are out. Maybe the team wins 9, makes the playoffs etc and he comes back.

I killed his hire this past winter, but have been very pleased with many things he has done. I "first guess" a lot and Hickey did things that I favored so it is hard for me to get on him too much.

When not keeping Matt Hazel is your biggest gripe, I cannot complain too much.

Hope springs eternal, but it does appear that Hickey is systematic and methodical in trying to resolve apparent problems. Daniel Thomas was not we had hoped. However, he was OK and occasionally contributed, eg Pittsburgh win. But the good efforts were too scarce and the decision was made to cut bait. If Jeffy was still GM, he would probably have blamed Joe for the inadequate coaching to enable Daniel to play to his potential - ie DT was joe's coaching failure not Jeffy's scouting failure. As Stephen Ross alluded in the Dallas telecast, we have a Head Coach and a GM on the same page, working together. The inference being that we didn't have Joe and Jeff on the same page.
I'm delighted to see so many talented young players make the roster. Some will succeed and some will probably faiil, but it's good to see that the team is not afraid to make changes and address the problems.
I'm an optimist but this is the most excited that I've been about a Dolphin resurgence in many years. Fins up!

I for one agree... the caliber of players we are seeing now are definitely a notch above previous years. We drafted and signed good undrafted free agents this year, let us hope they pan out. I personally want Chris Mccain, Walt Aikens, and Jordan Tripp to become a true part of this defense.

This. Now, if either of their vision proves insufficient, we'll be starting all over with a new GM/HC...at least HC. It'll be interesting to watch how the Hickey moves pan out over the next season or two...I'm a lot more hopeful for them than I was for Ireland's picks, partly since Ireland picked his guys from the infirmary.

2 3rd round picks for Brandon Marshall.... Will never forget that.

Hickey crushed it. Ja'Juan James, Jarvis Landry, Gator Hoskins, Fede, Damian Williams, Damien Williams, McCain, Johnson, J Tripp...And that's not including his quite substantial free agency signings.

He has not only improved our team for now but has made our future very bright - with inexpensive and talented athletic players...

This team has the opportunity to make a run - many many good things have to happen to have success - but we got a shot now!

Thanks Hickey - and thanks for the thread.

Agree looking at the final roster cuts i think he did the right ones keeping mccain and the dw1 dw2 Anthony Johnson
Hazel was worth keeping the dolphins were just deep there. With Thigpen gone Williams will assume the returns..

I was not a fan of him as GM. I really didn't like most of his FA signings. Shelley is terrible and he is the only player he brought in on the interior OL until Pouncey went down. I also thought he really dropped the ball not bringing in a LB or two. But I have to admit he did a good job in the draft. Still think we should have traded back in the 1st, but James has turned out better than I thought. I don't see Hickey as having done anything great, but even average is a huge upgrade over what Ireland was able to do in the draft.

I'll stick with it's too early to tell yet because although it looks like he may have hit on young talent, if we finish 8-8 again, what does it really matter because we're not any better than years past. Gotta wait until January to give a grade. But it does look a little more promising

Well Hickey has no ties to the players that didn't work out. He doesn't have to go to Ross and say "Um, that guy I drafted in the 2nd round- yeah him - ummmm, I need to cut him". That helps out huge the first year in getting things done.

With that said, good so far. Feel good about the football players out there.

I am still not sold. He has done a great job in bringing in young talent, but he hasn't fixed this OL. He needs to get another guard. He needed to be aggressive after the Dallas Thomas experiment failed miserably.

I believe after the Pats game, this will be glaringly obvious...we will have 0 running game...even with Moreno.

And why do we still have Wheeler?

Earlier this offseason we worked out Cortland Finnegan. Apparently impressed, Hickey(or his representative) talked to Finnegan's agent. Hickey wanted to sign him to a $5 million deal. Finnegan's agent wanted twice that. After they broke off the meeting and decided to wait a few days while mulling it over rumors started to float around that another team wanted Finnegan. Hickey folded and gave in to Finnegan's demands. The problem? According to reports that came out Finnegan had given his agent a deadline and was willing to sign our offer if we had waited a few more days. Oh, and no other team had actually contacted Finnegan's camp.

Thats Hickey. When a problem requires an elegant solution, Hickey throws a hammer at it. Hole at left tackle? Give a player $12 million more than the next guy to come play for us. Hole at right tackle but have run out of clear cut first round talent? Reach for a borderline second round pick.

I'll be the first to admit we improved this roster. But we didnt improve it enough and we didnt use our resources in the best way possible. Case in point: had we signed Jared Veldheer to a $35 million deal we could have had enough left over to make a run at a top free agent guard. Both of those players would have helped our offensive line vastly more than just signing Brandon Albert, and the cost would have been only negligibly higher. Those type of decisions hurt us in both the long and short term. If Hickey is going to make this type of mistakes when we are flush with cap space, what happens when we are up against the ceiling and need to improve this roster? I hope i never find out the answer to that question.

People need to get past this mindset of "we're better than last year that means we did a great job!". What matters is improving more than every other team in the league. And we failed. Taking 1 step forward when the rest of the league takes 3 steps forward leaves us 2 steps behind. This forum really needs to have higher standards for the team that everyone supposedly loves so much. I mean, my god, people are losing their minds over roster cuts, something that is considered relatively mundane for every other franchise out there. We need a shrewd leader for this franchise and we need him right now.
