The new NFL rules for 2006-07 season?

yes. something about instant replay being used for plays that were not allowed before. I think there are one or two more...I do not know exactly that's why I opened this thread.

Nevermind. I found the new rules:

  • Hitting quarterbacks below the knees when they have both feet on the ground will be a 15-yard penalty.
  • “Horse collar” tackles on a jersey or pads from behind will result in a 15-yard penalty, unless it’s a quarterback in the pocket or runner in the tackle box.
  • No prolonged or excessive celebrations, no using props (pylon, cell phone, Sharpie), and no lying on the ground, unless it’s to pray. These are 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
  • No taunting in a player’s face.
  • Referees will have 60 seconds to review an instant replay, down from 90.
  • Fumbles can be reviewed via replay when a player is ruled down by contact.
  • No more than six players on either side of the line on onside kicks, preventing stacking.

So, what do you think?

Hmm we'll see about that one.

That would be a good rule for us with our ailing quarterback. But like you, I don't see that penalty being called very often if at all.

The onside kick rule...sounds like the death of onside kicks.

Don't you normally stack one side to recover the ball??

Yeah... I don't really understand that one.

I really like the 60 seconds for ref's to review a play... last year it would take them FOREVER to review.

What the heck is the rationale behind the onside kick rule?

Last year when the 90 seconds ended they were still under the black cape. Is this really enforced

Hopefully we wont need to kick an onside kick this year

Stacking the side of the field = more chance of injury. (In theory)

Correct. That was the rationale.

It's a trainwreck of a play...
It'll STILL be a trainwreck of a play, but just with fewer "crashes".

Oh, BTW, onsides kicks will STILL happen. This rule change will NOT eliminate them.

It's still going to shorten the time for review.

For example:
If they went over by 10 seconds on average (or whatever) last year (100 seconds vs. limit of 90)

they'll still go over by the same average (ie, 10 seconds).
But now it'll be 70 seconds on average, not 100.
