The Dolphins have done ok in the hardest part of our season. We've had to overcome a tough schedule and a bunch of injuries as well as learning to coach and play together as a new staff and team. I think we are progressing and still have an opportunity to have a special season. Our players that normally aren't starting have gotten enough time and reps now that there really aren't any excuses to be the "next man up" and play at a reasonable level. The coaches have had plenty of time to figure ourselves out and create a solid scheme we can win with. The time is now and our next stretch in the schedule is the stretch in the schedule that we should dominate. Here's a look:

We have no excuses. Ten games ahead and only a few we'll be the underdog in. The time is now.

Things I hope to see on Offense:
- More deep ball and emphasis specifically on Hill and Waddle in the offense
- More Mostert and anyone but Edmonds
- Continued growth on our OL blocking

Things I hope to see on Defense:
- More pressure from Zero look and from base sets
- I'd like to see our Stars play on the highest level more often
- More stuffs, More Sacks, More turnovers (Holland, X, Wilkins, Kohou, Phillips, Ingram)
- Continued growth of Bethel in our scheme. I think this guy has been a great find for us
- A bigger role for Gink. Maybe on the inside
- Continued growth by Iggy

Great post as always, Mike.

To me, the next 5 weeks are key: 4 games in that stretch and all 4 should be wins. No excuse not to be 8-3 heading into that final stretch of the schedule, where the competition stiffens a little bit.

On D, I think we’ve simply lacked the personnel (due to injuries at CB) to play our scheme. The key is whether B Jones comes back this year or not. Fingers crossed he does, because with him and X on the boundaries I’m confident we’ll see zero looks again.

On O, as long as Tua + Armstead + Hill + Waddle stay healthy, we’re gonna cook. I have no doubt about it.

I get the need to win the next 4 games, but I also any given Sunday.... Don't want people to unravel because we didn't cover vegas ML! Important thing is to get healthy, get more reps, and better chemistry. So that even if we do lose, we can win against teams that many would consider more difficult down the stretch.

If we beat teams that we should beat, and lose to better teams... how do we think the playoffs would go anyways?
If we get more acclimated even with bumps on the road and start developing a team that can legit beat any team, that's the goal.

If the Dolphins play to their potential, they should be no worse than 9-4 after the Chargers game. The 49ers are their toughest opponent before they play the Bills but there is no reason the Dolphins can't beat them. The Chargers are decimated with injuries and have already been blown out at home by the Jaguars and Seahawks, so that game is less daunting than it was a few weeks ago.

Even though Tua leads the league in down field throws he’s still not seeing wide open guys that the scheme is offering up on a silver platter

I know it’s not a popular opinion but I just feel like Vanginkel needs to play more than Ingram, his movement skills and instincts are pretty hi level and I think the guy could be a very good player not just a good one.

Coach how can we get Van ginkel more reps, is the only way cutting ingrams reps ?

I see 11-13 wins. I believe the Titans won 11 games last year and were the one seed. This year I think we need 13 to get the one seed. But seeding doesn’t matter. If we have Tua, Hill & Waddle, we can get hot at the right time. Over 7 weeks, Bills & Chiefs are the only teams that you can say are better than us in the AFC. The thing is that we beat the bills and are 4-0 with our starting qb. Again, I believe we have a legit shot this year.

Next 4 NEED to be wins. 49ers will be tough, as will @Chargers, @Bills, and the others but honestly no reason we cant win any of the remaining games. Might be a bit tall of a task to ask to beat the Bills again. But, Chicago just beat NE in NE, not as daunting now. Packers are very beatable for sure. Jets we should win too, at home, no breece hall, hopefully tua this time....

If we go 7-3 in that stretch, that would be pretty solid, wouldnt be mad about that

Can we have what you are drinking. This defense is still not good. Beating a horrible Pittsburgh team is hardly a big deal.
10 wins is a much more realistic and sensible goal.
They lost to the Jets on the road, they can certainly lose at Chicago or Detroit and New England.
There just too many holes in this roster this year and the depth is just horrible.

Again, we are 4-0 with our starting qb. I believe we would be 6-0 if Tua didn’t get concussed. I agree that we lack depth. That’s what happens when you trade early picks for a star. Next draft will help with that. Your problem is that you think that we shouldn’t have holes. Every team has holes and injuries. As I said, as long as Tua, Hill & Waddle are healthy, we are capable of beating any team in a playoff game.

just to correct myself on this, buddy of mine who played ball at penn state said, Deej, let him learn this ssytem, give him time to get comfortable with everything and his visions will widen like majic.

We're seeing some nice flashes and a pass game that the team can win with. Miami is 3rd in passing yards behind only Cincinnati and Kansas City. That includes most of three games with Thompson and Bridgewater.

The passing game with Hill and Waddle can be explosive and that's a great strength for the Dolphins. But, the team is 28th in rushing. It's time to get the run game going. That is McDaniel's area of expertise and it needs to be featured more.

In losses to Cincinnati and Minnesota, Miami beat itself. Have to limit mistakes. Even the less talented teams can beat you if you lose the turnover battle.

The depleted secondary is a big concern. Maybe a trade deadline deal could happen.

It's there for the taking. I see Miami as the third or 4th best team in the AFC if they can avoid major injuries in the second half.

It stands to reason too that IF we can get our key guys back healthy that we should get better as our team grows together under our coach and system. Either way, we can beat anyone and this upcoming schedule looks really good for us. We have no excuses.

Agree. I'm mostly encouraged. Tua will get back into rhythm and, hopefully, the run game produces more.

It's obviously still a work in progress.
