Hudson Houck.

The reason the phins were able to get Houck here wasn't the money. It was the fact he was given the chance to help out with the play calling (this was in articles when he was first hired).

They have Tim Davis and someone else also coaching the OL. This would be a pretty good choice if were looking for an OC that will be here for a few years and he can still be involved in coaching the OL ala Saban and the DB's.

I don't like that at all. Keep Houck as the o-line coach only. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't see Houck as a creative play caller.

How the hell would you know that. You do realize he was involved in the play calling this past season right? He's knowledgeable about the offense and with the depth at the OL spot with coaches makes sense since Baggett is most likely going to go with Linehan. He can still be quite involved with the O-line. Better then building the offense all over again with yet another OC coach. Everyone that people are mentioning are not going to be here for more then a year.

Not OC material psssht. Russ Grimm isn't half the coach Houck is yet he's been mentioned as far as HC with some teams.

Houck is the best (and highest paid) OLine coach in the league, and at his age a promotion doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Exactly, keep him where is he at and what he does best.

I could live with that but I still say Marc Trestman(If Wanny wouldve made him OC instead of a tight ends coach we would have been far better in 2004)

I don't recall hearing anything about play calling for him. Then again I could see us splitting duties between a passing game director and a ground game director and Hudson could easily take the latter.

But Then Wanny might still be coaching us,please disregard:dolphins:

I remember reading about it in a couple of the articles after he was hired that he was going to be allowed to get involved with the play calling as he wanted more 'control' then he had in SD.

Not gonna happen.

I don't know why you guys are so negative on Houck as a possible coordinator. Why would you think that Houck wouldn't be a good play caller? I have to admit I never thought about it, by VanDolPhan has a point. Why not Houck? Sure Baggett probably knows the system better, but Houck is at least as good a choice as Jason Garrett.

At least we would know that Houck would be well versed in combating blitzes and protection schemes. Just that knowledge alone would make him a viable candidate in my book.

On a related note, I saw where the O-Line coach in San Diego was fired yesterday. Houck was a HUGE loss for them and gain for us..

I have a feeling Saban will bring in someone from the outside to be the OC. He will try and get the most qualified person that can blend in with what he wants.

Exactly. I believe at the very least the phins would have a very strong running game. Just bring in a WR's coach that has former OC expirience that could be made an assistant HC to help Houck out and I think he could make for a great OC.
