I know Cam wasn't Huizenga's first choice but why is Mr. H paying Cam less money (4yrs - 10 mil = 2.5 per year) to be Head Coach than Capers to be the defensive coordinator (3yrs - 8 mil = 2.69 per year)? Does Cam have any "say" in the defense area. Does Cam have final say in all coaching matters or does Dom overrule him foe defense. It's a bit odd the pay situation, I can't thing of another situation quite like it.

Not sure. But why wouldn't the head coach have a say in 1/3 of the team's personnel and game-planning?

It seems odd for a coordinator to make more money, and I have no idea what to expect from this set-up, but we'll all find out shortly.

I think Cam certainly has authority over the defense but the expectation will be that Dom will actually be dealing with it most of the time. Cam will be able to overrule Dom, but it likely won't happen much at all. As to the compensation, Dom is frankly worth more than Cam is. When Cam starts winning games and proves he is worth the money, he'll get more of it. I'd imagine we'll see an extension after the 2008 season if he's working out. At that point, he'll probably get a significant pay boost to the type of money Saban got.

I tend to agree.

I think it's just relative to (can't believe I just said that ) his prior salary, he was making 750k a year at San Diego so 2.5 mil is a big jump. After he turns this team around and gets us to the Super Bowl I'm sure he will get a big raise!

Its simple really

Dom has proven to be a top 5 defensive mind in the game, while Cameron hasnt proven to be a top (insert any number here) as a head coach.

Of course Cam would be able to over rule Dom on defensive decisions, but why would he? He has no expertise in defense and definitely not as much as Dom even if he has some.

My question as an outside fan has Capers agreed to his extension yet. Last I heard he has not signed it?

let's say it this way...whatever Dom's deal is, that's HIS deal; the deal he and his people worked out with the team...now, whatever Cam's deal is, is just that, HIS deal...IT REALLY ONLY CONCERNS CAM AND HIS PEOPLE...whatdoyoucare?!...any $$$ dealings you have with your boss, does it concern your coworkers what you make??...if you can get more for your deal, that's good only for you!...if they get more, same for them...now, does whatever your earn (or not), make you any less credible? any less pertinent? any less necessary?...if yall can't wrap your brains around these contractural concepts, come on out to Hollywood; this town was built on 'inside-out' deals...case in point: A-list actor always makes more than A-list director...simpler?...Dom: proven, Cam: unproven...simple..

Interesting aside... maybe Huizenga outmaneuvered the situation after all. Many people were in Caper's corner for the head job. But, of course , we needed to bring some offensive sanity to the organization. Cameron was considered one if not the top offensive mind, but rules don't allow for a lateral move. So Wayne pays Capers like a head coach to keep him happy and gets Cameron in as the Head Coach because it was the only way to pry him loose from the Chargers. If so, great business move by the billionaire - Mr.H!

DOM MAKING MORE THAN CAM?
Amid news that Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers finally has signed his three-year, $8.1 million contract to remain with the team, something has occurred to us.
Capers, at $2.7 million per year, is making more on average than the head coach.
Per the Miami Herald, Cam Cameron has signed a four-year deal worth approximately $10 million, which works out to an average of $2.5 million annually.
If the published numbers are right, the move sends an awkward message to the players as to which guy with a three-letter first name is in charge. If the Fins come out strong in 2007, it won't be a problem. But if/when the wheels start to come off, the possibility of players aligning under Capers or Cameron is real, we believe.
The specifics of Cameron's contract also make us wonder whether he is essentially on a two-year leash. If the team hasn't made significant strides by 2009, Cameron could leave with a $5 million severance package -- and Coach Chin could roll in.
But would $5 million be too much to give Cameron to leave? Not if you consider that the Fins have saved about $6 million over the next three years by swapping out the balance of Nick Saban's contract with the corresponding term of Cameron's deal.
Look, we don't want to throw water on Cameron's shining moment. But the fact that he got the job as part of an expansive search that seemed to add more candidates than it excluded, we have a feeling that the powers-that-be in Miami weren't blown away by any of the candidates -- and that Cameron will have to coach his way into keeping the job.

Thats from PFT.

Another way of looking at this: Cam is getting the benefit of continuity with a top rated defense that will need some replacement parts but will likely continue humming along. Given the reluctance to hire retreads in the league these days as seen by fans here and who has gotten jobs this year, he needs to make this work if he wants to be a head coach. I doubt he really cares that he'll be making a little less than his DC because the alternative means he has a lot more work to do in an area he doesn't have that much experience with.

Ok thanx for the answer I was kinda hoping he would leave, your DEF even if it is old scares me

What's the deal with McGahee? I thought I heard somewhere that he wants out of Buffalo or that the team doesn't really care for his attitude?? Think it was on ESPN the other day??

We'll take the problem child off your hands if you throw in Lee Evans.:D
