the bates' dolphins ended the season averaging 22 points a game,
and they were the best when they rose up to the occasion to play the best defenses: ne (29 pts) - buf (32 pts) - bal (23).

do i think we are better now? yes. why? ronnie brown, ricky williams, lamar gordon, david boston, and stockar mcdougle are 5 upgrades at their respective slots. and hudson and scott will make the biggest difference. who knows how the qb play will be, but it sure will be better than last year, and last year was not too bad, solely looking at points. if we can average around 25 points a game, we are going to win more than we lose.

Yes I saw that, again you gave the ol homer football analogy..I was just pointing it out..I saw everything you did in that statement, but I stand by my comment. You, like the phinfans, want your QB to do well..but even a "IF" is too much for JP right now. After a couple of PS games, we'll add a "IF' to him....You still ma man though.. :D

A couple things. To address the topic at hand, I believe our offense will be improved this year. We have too much talent to play the way we did last year. How much improved will remain to be seen.

Onto this defense arguement. How can you even compare our defense of this year to the superbowl Ravens defense? They were straight up horrifying. Two years ago I thought our defense was going to be one of the best ever. At some points they did look like they could shape up to be one of the best. Some of our games the defense would humiliate the opposing offense. The problem was OUR offense would then go three and out in a matter of thirty seconds. I don't care how good your defense is, they cannot be on the field the entire time and still play every play as it was their first. With that being said, we saw some late season collapses in 2002/2003. I don't think this years defense will be better talent wise than we were two years ago, but I do believe we will be a lot less predictable, and have an offense that can actually eat up some time to let the D rest.

But come on guys, the superbowl Ravens? No way...

Why is it so hard to say if JP pans out, we should have one hell of an O. Just like if feely and your OL pan out, you could have one hell os a passing game. :confused: I don't see the homerism in that and I never disagreed w/ finfans who use the IF word.

I'll take a crack at it.

Receivers - Great one in Chambers, good one in booker, definately not sold on Boston.

Te- Randy is a great TE

RB- I am not gonna toot Brown's horn just yet as he has done nothing. However he has the POTENTIAL to be one of the greats, hes a physical specimen and I think sharing carries with Williams at Auburn can only help his longevity. I would expect next to nothing from Ricky this year.

This is where it starts to get dicey...

Offense Line- Was terrible last year and really did nothing to improve besides adding Houck(sp?). Although I am sure this will help I am not expecting big things from this unit next year.

QB - Another big question mark. Gus has been a long time #2 guy, reports seem to say he is doing pretty well in OTA's but my only question can he make it through a 16 game season? He hasnt been a full time starter since the 90's and he isnt getting any younger. Feeley, what can you say about that guy. Make all the excuses you want I just can see the dolphins returning to a powerhouse team in the AFC or even within the division with him at the helm. I think the next big move the dolphins need to make is to get a quality QB whether through next years draft of FA.

Overall I think the offense has many weapons but how well will they be able to two when the arguably the two most important things on offense (o-line and QB) are the teams biggest question mark remains to be seen.

You sell the o-line short. There are many young players on the line. Hadnot was a rookie and he will be better. Carey has a lot of physical talent and he has a big upside (no pun intended). Stockar McDougle is an upgrade, McIntosh is fully healthy. O-line players usually don't dominate as rookies. It usually takes a few years to get used to the speed and techniques used by D-linemen. Coaching is also very important; the line needs to learn to function as a cohesive unit. Many of the sacks given up last year were due to missed blocks/ assignments and not due to being physically overmatched. Houck will correct a lot of that.

I have to admit, I thought Losman was an intriguing prospect last year and was hoping the Phins would get a shot at him in the 2nd-3rd round. I didn't think he was worth a 1st rd pick, though.

Our air game is a question mark. Whether it's our weakness, that remains to be seen.

How about our running game vs. your run D?

That's a possibility, but I think there have been a lot of efforts to improve the run D while our secondary is suddenly suspect (no Surtain, Poole out, and the need for another S).

A coach with a solid back (McGahee) and a young QB, would have to infer that the opposing D is going to scheme to take away the run. Given that that team (Dolphins) has spent a lot of effort to shore up a poor run D while simultaneously losing talent in the secondary, one could deduce the offensive game plan to be thus: use the run to set up home run passing (you have too much speed at WR to not be thinking this way). Thereby effectively leading to my hypothesis: your air attack v. our secondary.

OK 1 thing everyone(other teams' fans) are saying Houck won't make a big difference... Did he make a big difference in L.A., Dallas, or San Diego... I would say so and none of them had "great" lines. I always say it...Hudson Houck is the number 1 off-season pick-up for the dolphins.

I think he was worth a 1st rd pick, and still think he would've been a better pick than Carey.
