I've been reading a lot about our o-line recently. Here's how it is looking to me...

We've got 5 guys from last year returning: Vernon Carey, Anthony Alabi, Joe Toledo, Rex Hadnot, and LJ Shelton. Which means we'll be adding 4-5 new guys this year.

Which guys? First you have to check out this quote from Cam Cameron: "In an ideal sense we don't want guys 330, 340, 350 pounds playing guard. We want guys that can think, and can move and are mobile. We'd like our bigger guys to be at tackle."

It's been a little confusing, so I've broken it down into each position, and who is competing for the starting job at that position.

Left Tackle
Once AZ drafted Levi Brown, the LT position became Carey's to lose.

Alabi, when healthy, seems like the leading candidate to backup Carey. Shelton makes too much money to be a backup.

Left Guard
Samson Satele will start. Either at LG or C.

If Satele starts at C, then Hadnot might move to LG.

Liwienski is virtually guaranteed a roster spot as a backup. He might even beat somebody out and start.

Stephen Parker will also compete for the LG spot as he played there at Arkansas.

Center
Either Satele or Hadnot will most likely start.
Mormino will stick as the backup Center. He might even win the starting job.
Johnathan Ingram will also compete for Center.

Right Guard
Dan Stevenson and Tala Esera will compete for RG. If neither is good enough, then Hadnot or Mormino might get the call.

Right Tackle
Looks like LJ Shelton is the front-runner. But you never know...

Based purely on size, Joe Toledo and Julius Wilson would be more likely to play RT than Mike Rosenthal or Marion Dukes.

If Toledo or Wilson win the starting job, Shelton might get cut (or traded if he has any value). Too big and not athletic enough to play Guard for Cameron.

i think it might suprise some people. i think that it will be improved, now im not saying it will be a great o line like indys or nething but i think it could be pretty good despite previous troubles.

The way I see it:

LT Carey
LG Liwienski
C Satele
RG Hadnot
RT Shelton

That's of course if no one is added between now and week 1.

I think you pretty much got it covered. The only think that worries me is Carey's capacity to play at LT. I think he is up to it, but he still has much to learn. Yet, out of all the other Ts, he is the most prepare and capable.

good luck with the o-line. if this works houck is a great coach if not they will draft more players next year? ?

Shelton at RT is also a concern. And the "backups", Alibi, Toledo and Rosenthal can't stay healthy. OT is still a big liability IMO.

Pretty good prediction and hopefully we will get Kendall so that he can step in for 2-3 years and play LG for us. I think by the time the season starts it will look like:

LT: Carey
LG: Kendall
C: Satele
RG: Hadnot
RT: Shelton

i think our o-line will definitely improve this year with cam and i look forward to seeing if carey can become a dominant LT

I hope Toledo finds a starting spot. He and Mormino, I think are prime candidates for a starting spot on this team provided they stay healthy.

:sidelol: Shelton get cut? :sidelol:

If Toledo won the RT spot, Shelton would move back to RG.

But that said, Shelton has just as much been given the RT as Carey was given the LT spot.

Toledo is likely battling it out with Liwienski for the LG spot. If Liwienski wins it, Toledo becomes the backup RT.

i belive rosenthal has a chance to start at rt and it would go
LT carey backup alabi
LG Liwnski or kendall backup satele
C hadnot backup mormino or satele
RG shelton backup esera
RT rosenthal backup toledo

this seems more accuarate IMO because I just dont see Hadnot being able to convert to C
