The Official 2006 New York Yankees Thread!

I never heard about the Jeter deal, but I did hear about the Rivera one. Who was coming to the Yankees for him? Wasn't it their SS at the time?

I believe so. It was a nobody.

The Yankees better beat up on Adam Eaton tonight. He hasn't pitched all year and we got the Moose going so hopefully we can take the first 2 in Texas. No Johnny Damon again tonight, his back is barking and he'll be out of the line-up for the 2nd straight game!

Got to give the Yankees credit. Most teams would be dead after giving up the lead in the 8th and have bases loaded and 0 outs.

Yankees are back in the Wild Card. Can't say I didn't see that coming sooner or later.

yeah I agree, and I got to tip my hat to Giambi, he has really come back strong over the last few years.

Jason Giambi bailed out Joe Torre big time tonight. What was Torre thinking putting in the just called up TJ Beam in during that huge situation? If he had any intention of using Proctor he should have went straight to him, not give the ball to an unproven rookie. Using Chacon and Myers in that situation is what he should have done and Proctor (who was on fire before tonight) wouldn't have been so over worked. Anyways it was a great win tonight. Giambi came through and say what you want about A-Rod but he sparked the 4 run 8th with that homerun. At that point the Yankees were reeling and that homerun gave them life. I think he's warming up and that's going to be ugly for the rest of the American League!

In Torre's defense, he didn't want to use Proctor who was over used lately. Farnsworth apparently hurt himself warming up (what the announcers were speculating) and Torre probably didn't want to use Chacon who has been bad lately. With no lefties coming up right away he probably figured to throw Beam out there and maybe get lucky.

Yeah, OK bro, whatever you say. The Yankees who were dead all night finally claw back in a game and they put the game in the hands of Beam? C'mon man, you know better then that. If Torre was so intent on resting Proctor then why did he put him in there to fail after Beam let runners on second and third? If Torre had no intentions of using Proctor he should have said "no matter what Beam does Proctor has the night off" not "If Beam messes this up we'll put Proctor in there to clean up his mess." That and if Torre was so intent on not using Proctor why did he have him warming up in the 7th when Villone was in there for his second inning? Once again man give it a rest, you know better then to put Beam in the game in that situation. Nothing he's done in MLB has warranted him coming into a game in a tight situation. He's basically only pitched in mop up roles and he's been average in those situations. That and if he was good enough to come into a game in the 8th inning of a tight one, why did the Yankees send him back down to Triple A earlier in the month? Plus I love Joe Torre and aren't one of those stupid Yankees fans calling for his head if the Yankees don't win the World Series. I'm just stating the facts!

I never said it was the right move to do, all I was saying is Torre was in a tough spot. Proctor pitched 3 times in 4 days and Torre was trying to avoid using him if he could because let's face it Proctor didn't have anything tonight. Farnsworth was unable to pitch tonight. Chacon has been terrible lately and Myers can't get a righty out so who's left in the pen? Rivera and Beam. Well Torre obviously didn't want to use Rivera for 2 innings so he threw Beam in there and maybe the kid would have gotten lucky. Obviously the move didn't work. I realize Beam has been bad but sometimes you have to bite the bullet when the pen is tired and have him pitch and hopefully you get out of the inning without damage.

I can't say that hasn't crossed my mind since he suddenly came back from the dead last year.

Now we lead the WC race and are just a game out in the L column from 1st.
