If you put Schilling in and say he ends his career with 220 or so (I don't see him playing in 3-4 years), then it opens the flood gate for every guy with just over 200 wins who has hasn't been let in. Schill JUST got his 200th win at the age of 38/39, that is real late in someones career to be getting that.

i don't think i missed your point, if he got 20 wins this year it would be his 1st so 1 20 win season w/ the rest of his career would not be enough.

He has a 30 or so more wins than Schilling which is nice but Schill has won 20 3 times, has a lower career ERA and is a great postseason pitcher. The final nails for schill are being named co-MVP in the '01 WS ending the Yankee dynasty then doing the impossible- leading Boston to a series win over the Yanks and to a World Championship. those factors trump anything Moose has done.

But will the HOF voters care about that. They may only look at his Ws and his big mouth.

Ending the Yankee dynasty and ending the Boston curse are 2 HUGE moments in the history of baseball. I think that gets him in. People might say he compares to Jack Morris and jack's not in(though he should be) but I just think the 2 accomplishments I posted above will push him through.

One thing you guys are forgetting about is that Schilling may not be the most liked player by the sports writers and as we've seen in some cases in the past, that could keep him out of the hall. I think Schilling should be in but you guys know how spiteful these writers are so who knows, it's a toss-up!

That's what's in my mind because you can't "default" Schilling in because he doesn't have the W's that would "default" someone into the Hall. It makes the writers have to actually think about it and think about his big mouth while making the decision.
 
hall of fame voting is very cut and dry. It's straight numbers.

Things like beating the Yankees in the playoffs and 2 WS wins are nice feel good stories, but they mean very little.

If he ends his career with 220 wins or 230 wins, no way in hell he is getting in. It's just not happening.

Mussiana's body of work is more consistent. He might not have the high milestone moments, but this guy has won close to 15 games or more almost every year in his career. And did so in the steroid era. The entire body of work is just more consistent and impressive. While Schilling had some high highs but also some low lows sunk in there. And the numbers are clearly on Mussiana's side for him getting in.

While I agree with you mostly, there is a guy in the hall w/ 236 wins.. I Schill ends up with 230 I think he has a chance. I don;t think it is a"no way in hell scenario", IMO
 
I think Schilling is on the borderline, more on the no side though. Like people mentioned he doesn't enough W's but on the other hand he's one of the best post season pitchers in the history of the game. I think if Schilling wins 20 games one more time in his career, another WS title or a Cy Young he'll make it.
 
With all the rumors of Abreu going to the Yankees for virutally nothing (apparently the deal of Melky, Duncan and Proctor is now just 2 low ball prospects) I will come back on this thread and admit I was wrong like I said I would. I just didn't think the Phillies would basically dump Abreu due to his contract or that they would be this bad this year.
