Despite the outcome of tonight's game, Miami went punch for punch with one of the best teams in the NFL. They also completely dominated the first half. A few weeks ago, Miami was a few key plays away from beating the Colts, and pummeled the Colts all game long.
A couple things are apparent:
1. Miami is good. When they execute their gameplan, and grind out games on the ground, they are talented enough right now to win football games.
2. They aren't in the upper echelon of teams yet. We have seen that they are good enough to be competitive against even the best teams in the league, but can't seem to finish games off. I know the big W against the Jets had everyone's expectations sky high, but this game was a healthy dose of reality.
3. They're building their team the right way, and will be a perennial playoff contender in a year or 2. They had a cupcake schedule last year, and this year they have the most difficult schedule in the NFL, and are currently in the most difficult portion of that schedule. They are a few playmakers away from being a truly explosive force. They have the best rushing offense in the league. Their offensive line is already rock solid. Their run defense is stout. They need to improve the pass defense, and I'm sure the front office will address that via the draft, and potentially, free agency. I feel 100% confident that this team is being built with long term success in mind, not just to make a big splash one year, and then rebuild.
I for one, stand behind what the Dolphins are doing as an organization, and will not let a couple of tough losses to teams that should have blown Miami out anyways, shake my confidence in what this team is doing. I'm not jumping ship and neither should you.
