When was the last time we had anything to get excited about around here?

Jay has been getting a lot of pub lately, he tied the record for two straight 200 yard games.

Imagine if Jay does it a third time in a row? Against our rival, against one of the top run defenses in the league? That would be HUGE. Can he do it?

Let's put it out there now....we need to beat our division rival to get to 4-4. We need to continue to run the rock, which allows our defense to rest.

Let's hope Jay and our healthy O-line can get us there!
To be honest, even if he gets 50 yards, I'll be happy if we won...but for some reason, I think this kid wants to bust it for another 200. :hi5:

I'm putting it out there now. Do you believe that Jay can pull of the Hat Trick?
David Johnson had 100+ on the Jets, why can't Jay get 150, 175, or 200! :hump:

(Actually this should be the game where DVP and Stills shred the Jets secondary, but Jay for the Hat Trick sounds more exciting.)

I hope the rest of the O wants this for team recognition and battles for same against the Jets. I would think they will come out fired up and any Landry type fuel will set off and explosion of testosterone and adrenaline. Conversely, the Jets will also try to be tone setters of their own and close the door on Ajayi. Should be a hell of a game.

Yeah, the 200 thing has added fire to this game. If I am a Jets defender, I am going to be amped to try pound Jay into the turf. This is going to be an old school battle. Kind of exciting for two teams with bad records, at the bottom of the division. If Jay goes for another 200 though, South Florida is going to be on fire.

David Johnson is the only guy who had success against the Jets. He is arguably the best RB in the nfl this year. With that said I bet Ajayi can get 100 but the passing game should dominate this game for us

Definitely has been on my mind. That would really be something. Like everyone else I just want the win. A loss would be a big setback. Perhaps it's Tanny's turn to do something special....he's due for a big game historically.

Here is how the other back to back 200 yard runners fared

Ricky Williams 27 carries for 101 yards in 23-17 win over Oakland
O. J Simpson 12 carries for 78 yards in 21-20 win over Oakland the following season
O. J. Simpson 28 carries for 171 yards in 58-20 loss to Baltimore. O. J. actually did it twice.
Earl Campbell 36 carries for 157 yards in 20-16 win over Denver. Campbell actually had (4) 200 yard games that season (1980) 36 carries shows they made a concerted effort to get the 3rd 200 yard game.

Good luck to Jay next week.

I think he can top 200 again this year but not against the Jets. I believe SD has a poor run D so perhaps the following week

Make it 4

I was thinking of some other team. SD is top 10 rushing D. NYJ is #2 rush D. So I guess if he does it against the Jets he really can do it every week

I don't think it's gonna happen. But not because our offense doesn't hold up. Jets are gonna be committed to stopping the run, I expect Tannehill to put up big numbers off of play action against their bottom 5 pass defense

Obviously I would love to see him get it, but 1st off the Jets D-line will be a monstrous task for our O-line, and on top of that, I have a feeling the Jets D plan will be to make sure Ajayi does not beat them, so at least in the 1st half, Tannehill, and that great lineup of receivers we all were excited about, will have to do damage to that defense.

Then again, considering Ajayi's running has consisted as much on breaking tackles, as running away from defenses, if Ajayi can still get his yards the hard way, eventually there is a very good chance he could break one or two, like what happened against the Bills, when Miami was pinned inside their 5 yard line.

Good part about pinning a team inside the 5, with players cheating up, is that it is tough to run against that wall of players, but the bad part is, if the RB is able to break tackles to reach the 2nd level, it will then become a foot race with few players protecting for huge yardage. Ajayi does that a few times against the Jets, and obviously he will again get close to a 3rd straight deuce.

If by some miracle and great running Ajayi still manages to get another 200 yards against the Jets. there will then be no doubt that Ajayi is legit, and a force to be reckoned with in weeks/seasons to come.

Anything is possible thought not likely but it wouldn't be the first time he's the 1st RB to do something big. He's the only RB in college HISTORY to have 2000 and 500 rushing and receiving in one season so who knows. If he does rush for 200 yards we better win easy and not let the jets hang around with stupid penalties or ST's miscues

Ozzy rules!!

I have been wondering though. His hands haven't been great here. A handful of drops, so is he a great receiver and Tannehill just hasnt given him accurate passes? Has he not been used as a receiver enough or is he just an average receiver?

and really all his production came on one run. Our D has stunk but it has been the pass D that has been the problem.

Knowing the Jets main goal is to stop Ajayi, Gase still needs to run him 20+ times. Tannehill isn't good enough to be throwing 50 times a game.
