Porter wants a fresh start

School is now in session for Joey Porter - and the new Miami Dolphins linebacker knows what that means. Keep his nose clean, or else.

Porter, a three-time Pro Bowler in eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is scheduled to practice with his new team for the first time Friday morning during the Dolphins' first mini-camp of the spring.

On Wednesday, a day after first-year Commissioner Roger Goodell handed down heavy suspensions for the high-profile, off-the-field troubles of two players, Porter spoke for the first time publicly about the misdemeanor battery charge he faces for allegedly punching Bengals left tackle Levi Jones in the face last month at a Las Vegas casino.

Porter is scheduled to appear in court May 14, Las Vegas District Attorney David Roger said this week, and faces six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. "The new commissioner is coming down on guys, man," Porter said Wednesday during an interview on ESPN. "I definitely do not want to be going to the principal's office no time soon."

I say good for Joey. Like he said, keep the intensity on the field, and I think he'll prove to be a fine pickup.

do u guys really think he means that? i saw that interview and he was smiling during the whole thing. hes tellin reporters what the commish wants to hear. bottom line is him and levi are gonna have it out on the field where it should be and i cant freakin wait!

he needs to do whatever he can to keep this from going to court. apologize... kiss ***... whatever it is he's gotta do it.

what happends if he faces 6 months in jail?

Then he goes to jail for 6 months. But even the officer who cited him said he doubts that Porter will see any jail time. But you never know. I think Porter fears the Commissioner more then the court date IMO:sidelol:

Jon Clayton on ESPN said he would most likely just have to pay a fine, and will not see any jail time.

Joey is scared ****less that his childhood antic in a Las Vegas casino will end up a suspension without pay. I personally believe Goodell will suspend Porter and maybe Levi Jones for this.

uh yeah?:shakeno:

dude I not even read the thread but I had to say thats the best title of a thread i have ever seen anywhere. Funny.

I did see Joey Porter interview on ESPN schedule show yesterday however.
he looks scared of new nfl changes. Hes right only a ticket.
hes attitude seems great and I dont think his character will be problem at all.

That sooo is a halfassed apology. Ummmm, "if he thinks I was wrong, then I'll apologize". Whatever......

The guy appears to be a punk. Let's hope his play is better than his apologies.
