The painful week 2 PFT power ranking

I don't see anything less than 6 wins. This team went 7-9 back to back. Henne has definitely improved, but he's still poor in the red zone. I thought the team should at least win 7 to 8 games. I was willing to give Sparano a chance. I don't want to tank a season and see my team lose. I want them to win every game. I may have been more optimistic than some people, but I definitely don't want to Suck for Luck. I thought .500 was realistic. This team has the talent to be a playoff team.

I never want to suck...but I think if you remove all of your emotional attachment to the Miami Dolphins, it's not hard to see that in this league with the way it's designed for high-powered offenses and QB driven, it's obvious that it's better to end your season 2-14 than it is to end 8-8 ASSUMING you don't have a franchise QB.

If you go 13 - 3 you're right there where you need to be. But if you go 8-8 with a guy like Henne, you're far off from where you need to be. If you go 2-14, you can draft high and hopefully land that superstar QB. If not, you're gonna be bad again and you can start over until you get that superstar QB. I'm not saying go out there and tank the season in hopes that you get Luck, but if we do win two games I think it's a no-brainer that we take Luck and the future is VERY bright then. Whether or not Luck is "unproven" is irrelevant when Henne is unproven. Peyton Manning was at one point unproven and Luck is more highly touted coming out of college than Manning was.

GREAT new sig BTW.

LOVING that.

Go Canes!

Yah that's why I think Miami will be stuck at 7-9 or 8-8 and stuck at drafting an average player. If we do get a mid first round pick, I really hope the new coach would have the balls to trade up for his franchise QB. I hate Rex Ryan, but I have to respect that he liked Sanchez and traded up to get his man. It doesn't necessarily have to be Luck. I definitely agree Miami needs to draft a QB in the first round. We haven't done that since 1983 and it shows.

My philosophy is that hit or miss, it's worth the gamble on a potential franchise QB.

You can walk into a bar with average women and blonde bombshell 10's and you can walk out with one of the average ones all night, but it's worth the gamble to take your shots at the 10's in that bar at the very least.

Even if we miss, at least the franchise would be trying.

Luck wouldn't save us if he gets hit every play within 2 seconds, the pro bowl kicker misses high school FGs, and his great receivers drop passes. Oh and Nolan Carroll plays defense.

Exactly. And it would energize players on the team today. Some of these dudes seem like they've quit. Brandon Marshall seems to be one of the few giving 110% out there. Chad Henne, as much as I've crushed him, has really given some tremendous effort out there. Daniel Thomas had a lot to prove Sunday. And as much of a beating as Reshad Jones has taken here on the boards, that kid plays harder than any guy out there. That's what my eyeballs see.

Right now, Ireland, Sparano, and especially Ross seem very content with spinning tires.

This is something I haven't touched on but I think it deserves it's own thread...

Jake Long is without any question from anyone one of the top two (Joe Thomas) offensive lineman in the entire world. But there were a couple of plays on Sunday when I seen Jake get absolutely WORKED over in the trenches.

Really makes me raise an eyebrow and question just how healthy he really is.

Thats the kind of stuff no one knows is going to happen, or the experts predict. Its what the homers think is fine, and turns out to be bad. Thats the problem. The experts expect the fins at 100% to be no better than 6-10. The Homers at 100% expect the team to be 10-6. Where we fall? Coach, QB, Defense, and injury will tell us in the end. Jake was smoked by Connor Barwin, not Williams, which is even more sad.

I agree. I want Luck as much as anyone else but this is one of the deepest QB drafts in recent history. We could very realistically finish somewhere along the lines of 4-12 and have a shot at either Landry Jones or Matt Barkley. This season wouldn't even be all that much of a disappointment to me in retrospect if we dedicate the resources to getting 1 of those 3 guys. That would at least give us some legitimate hope for the future. The absolute disaster scenario for us IMO is if we do what I think Ireland would be prone to do... draft the "Safe Pick" in the 1st because it's too risky to use on a QB, and try again on a QB in the 2nd-3rd round. That would be deflating.

It's not even a matter of who was right with predictions or whatever.

The primary concern his the health of our franchise left tackle lol. And if he isn't 100%, what is he? And if he's not 100%, who knows about it? And if Sparano knows about it and he's running him out there anyway, then there's REALLY a problem and Sparano is being selfish trying to save his own job.

If you ask Jake if he can go, who really thinks Jake is going to say he can't go if he knows he can play at less than 100%? Of course he's strapping on the pads and doing business in the trenches. That's the pure nature of a true competitor. Peyton Manning wants to be out there but he knows deep down he can't. But if Peyton were at 90%, he'd be out there because he's convinced himself that he's really about 95%. This is exactly why I give Jay Cutler a bit of a pass during the playoffs last season.

Tuna's favorite 2 GMs are the bottom feeders ... son-in-law Pioli of the Chiefs ... and Ireland of the Dolphins.

Love to hear Tuna talk about THAT on TV!! Could even make an NFL Special ... Teachin' Fools to Shop for Groceries!! The Ptomaine Twins!! :lol2:

My basis was that it was a power ranking thread and how we are 0-2. Why we are 0-2, and most of it due to crap. Jake being part of that crap.

It could be Jake being 70% and just wanted to play and help the team. Sparano might look at the doctors or jake and maybe its Jake's decision. I'm sure sparano wants him out there if he can play at a decent level... And you know Jake is going to play no matter what unless its a peyton type deal. So who's to draw the line? IMO its the doctors.

Agreed...but after the Saban/Daunte debacle who knows whose side the doctors are on. Now, I don't even have the slightest clue if the current doctors are the same doctors we had during the Saban era...but for argument's sake...

:idk:

I've seen that BOTH games. I notice Jake's very vulnerable, especially to the outside Speed Rush.

I suspect ... that injury that had him out most of Preseason ... is not healed & is still BAD!! VERY OBVIOUS!!

You're right ... Funny all the folks on the board ... & tons have a man-crush on Jake ... yet, very few have noticed (par for the course, they miss most of the "football" in football games. lol)

Don't get me wrong, I love Jake. But I'm concerned right now. Granted, I think some of it might have to do with the lockout and missed OTA's, etc. Offensive lineman and secondaries...especially the secondary, need more time together unit-wise than any other unit on the team. So it could be a combination of the two and I certainly hope that it has a lot to do with lack of camps, etc.

HOWEVER...I doubt this is the case. My reasoning for that is that if you look around the league, QB play has been SPECTACULAR thus far this season and secondaries around the league have been torched as a result. QB isn't going to be this spectacular with subpar line play. So I'm leaning that the injury is nagging him more than we know right now.

And I've always said that "people are too busy watching the football and not watching football."
