(Disclaimer: This isn't a bash Chad post. I like Chad. This is just to put out some information for people to talk about)

I looked at the schedule and checked the pass defenses that we played this season. Since passing yardage totals can be misleading i went by Yards Per Attempt because that paints a much better picture of how good a pass defense is. Here they are in descending order in rank (I'm posting each game individually so I will post both games when we played an opponent twice:

(Some teams tied for certain rankings, that's why some teams are the same)
Ravens: #2 Def
Ravens: #2 Def
49ers: #10 Def
Chargers: #14
Bills: #17
Bills: #17
Jets: #17
Jets: #17
Cardinals: #22
Raiders: #22
Chiefs: #24
Pats: #24
Pats: #24
Texans: #27
Broncos: #28
Seahawks: #28
Rams: #31

It kind of shows that we played awful bad defenses all year. Also Chad's only two bad games came against the Ravens who were a top defense.

Interesting speculation...

I do believe however if we had made some adjustments and switched sooner to the 'quick hit' attack that saw some success in the second half it would have been a different game. We did very little to nullify the pass rush until Chad began the one step and throw that really moved the chains... We were victimized every time we tried to go downfield.

It was obvious from the jump that our OL was overmatched in this one and we just failed to adjust. The run game was stuffed and as soon as we went away from it Ed Reed was there waiting. This game was lost on the LOS not on Chad's arm...

It kind of puts into perspective how Chad did so well against bad pass defenses but really struggled against the best ones. It slightly worries me about his ability to perform against top of the line defenses.

Looking at these numbers, I don't think it's unreasonable to question whether he can perform well against the best defenses in the league.

Many Jets fans that had wanted to get rid of Penny gave this exact reason for years. His limitations prevent him from attacking top notch D's.

What would be more interesting is if someone could gather this info for his entire career. I'm not sure if that's even possible though.

I'm so mad that the Jets fans and announcers who said he would do poorly in the playoffs are right. I didn't believe it but yesterday certainly didn't help his case.

I was leaving the bar with my friend and he and I were talking about something along the same lines. I think we're going to:

1) wait for Henne to develop to go deep into the playoffs (he's learning from a precision master in Pennington, but he's got a rocket for an arm... Having Chad's mentality with a stronger arm gets me excited.

2) have a ridiculously effective running game that can take most of the pressure of of Penny.

Let's not kid ourselves here. When the running game stalled during the season and we had to put the ball in Pennington's hands, things ended up poorly more often than not.

I heard somebody say earlier that Chad is a great quarterback when it comes to getting to the playoffs, but succeeding through the playoffs is something chad probably won't ever be able to do.

I never believed that before but they only two games he played against a really good pass defense he got killed. His lack of arm strength was very apparent yesterday. He couldn't fit the ball in anywhere.

I tried to say the same thing once I found out we had to play the ravens in the playoffs during the week. But other dolphin fans did not want to hear it they only wanted to hear what they wanted to hear. you looked just at the passing ranking. I was saying total defense which baltimore is number 2 also. the best we played after that is ranked 10th and higher. We have only played two good defense this year and that was the ravens twice.

Also i know everyone said put more pressure on flacco but the truth is he Played the Number 1 defense twice then the #3,4,5,7,8 Ranked defense's this year so he saw everything already this season. It would of helped putting pressure on him but would of not won the game for us Like some fans think because that o line of theirs must be pretty good since they played all those top defenses and still won 11 games this year.

I also think that if the ravens thought we could come back they would of scored more points. Those first couple times they had the ball they moved it down the field very easy. As soon as they had the lead they changed the way their offense ran plays. They knew their defense alone could beat us. One reasons I would say this is true is because rex ryan in a interview after the game was asked if he thought they had the better team and he said we knew it coming into this game.

It worries me slightly because next year we the defenses we are going to face will be much better than the ones we played this year and the playoffs are full of good defenses. Even if we had somehow slipped past the Ravens we would have somehow had to beat the Steelers D and possibly the Titans D as well. Our offense isn't good enough for that yet.

There is a reason why good defenses have the stats that they do: offenses perform badly against them!!

Do you think that the Ravens have the #2 pass D because they had a good game or 2? I haven't looked at the numbers, but I guarentee that NO QB has played well against that D. The games they lost early in the season were due to Flacco's mistakes, not to a poor performing D.

I really get so sick of people saying that someone, Chad or whomever, doent play well against good defenses. The reason they are good is because NO ONE plays well against them

This is a case of catch-22.

If you perform well against top tier defenses then they would have poorer stats and be ranked lower.

Chad may be limited but other than Brady, Brees and Manning there is not QB in the NFL that you expect excellent performances against top tier defenses.

He is what he is. An excellent game manager, a great leader, a decent QB. That whole package makes him better than most at his position and he is definitely a top 10 QB which makes you a playoff contender each year.

He will never be a Marino where he can win games without the help of his team, but he is better or as good as:

Eli Manning
Rex Grossman
Matt Hasselback
Ben Roethlisberger
Donovan McNabb (Although I am sure a lot will disagree)
Jake Delhomme
Rich Gannon
Brad Johnson
Kerry Collins
Trent Dilfer
(List of Qbs excluding Brady, Manning, appearing in Superbowls since 2000)

Lets not forget that even though we had a soft schedule this year, our team should be a lot better next year. Not to mention our oline and WRs.

Good defenses do well overall but players can still play well against them. Peyton Manning destroyed the Ravens and Roethlisberger, Derek Anderson and Eli Manning all had good games against them. Even Jamarcus Russell had 228 yards and a td along with an int in his game.

Also Eli Manning, Donovan McNabb and Ben Roethlisberger are all better than Pennington. The rest of the quarterbacks on your list are bad quarterbacks. Why would you even put Grossman and Dilfer on there?
