would be if all of the following happens...

the Giants beat the Chiefs on Saturday
the Bucs beat the Pats on Saturday
the Colts beat the Chargers on Sunday
the Vikings beat the Steelers on Sunday
the Dolphins beat the Jets on Sunday

this would keep us alive in both the divison race and the wild card race and all of the above things can and I think this will happen

so Indy beating SD helps us?? i thought the only wasy in the playoffs was winning the division

i was rooting for the Chargers

we can make the wildcard and there's a whole thread about it

Must-win #1: Colts over Chargers

Of the eight remaining games for Pittsburgh, Kansas City and San Diego, at this point only two are already absolutely, positively critical: Indianapolis must beat San Diego this week, and Cleveland must beat Pittsburgh next week.

The Colts-Chargers game surprised me. I originally calculated that SD and KC would both need to win (plus Jacksonville) for us to be eliminated from the wildcard, but follow this carefully:

First, assume San Diego wins Sunday. We know that they MUST lose their following two for Miami to have any chance. So OK, then they lose to the Chiefs – but that means KC will finish #2 in their division unless the Chargers beat Denver in the final week. From Miami’s perspective, that can’t happen: that makes the Chargers 10-6. But we can’t afford KC at #2 in the division either – they’ll win the tiebreak whether it’s with us alone, or with Pittsburgh.

So: If San Diego wins Sunday, they can neither win nor lose the following week without eliminating Miami in the process, either way. (Maybe if they tie ...? Naah.) Fortunately, San Diego faces a Colts team that’s on a bit of a roll lately.

It would also be helpful if San Diego, after losing, went on to beat Kansas City – but as we’ve seen, that isn’t absolutely necessary. If both lose this week, and KC beats SD next week, we could still be OK if SD beats Denver and KC loses to Cincinnati in the final week. (Remember, quite some time ago, I said we might NEED the Chargers to win one, rather than finishing 8-8? Well, here we are. That was easy, wasn’t it?)

I'd rather see the Chargers winning!

you don't want Miami to make the playoffs? :shakeno:

the Colts are going to go undefeated unless they lose to Seattle or in the playoffs, because they are playing their starters for their remaining games and they are close to unbeatable, I don't think the Chargers stand a chance

I would rather see SD beat the colts. Pretty much the only way that we are going to get into the playoffs is by winning the East. The wild card isn't going to happen because we need SD and KC to drop 2 of their last 3. Then we have to have the Steelers lose 2 of 3 also I think.

I would rather the Patsy's just lose out and us win out and make the playoffs that way. Much more likely.

I dont think the Pats are going to beat the Bucs.
Pats vs. Jets on monday night at NY, this is the game that worries me. Hopefully since its a monday night game and in NY that will help the Jets win the game.
Then we have to beat the pats in NE in January.

Go San Diego!

We have as much chance of making the playoffs as a Wildcard as we do Division Winners...read the HUGE thread stickied at the top of the forum page. Go Colts!

I would rather see us have a shot at the wild card as well as the Division. The colts won't play their starters except maybe for the first half, so they will lose 1 of the 3 last games.

So let all this happen and it increases our odds greatly. I would love to be in a tie when we go into Foxboro on New Years Day. I will hold off the drinking on the Eve just so I wont be hungover watching that one. :goof:

Miami has a very slim chance of making the playoffs through the wild card route. We have a much better chance of making it by winning the division.

no, it's about the same

exactly. Much easier for one team to lose 3 games than three teams to lose 2 or 3 games.

No, it's not. If Jax wins just one game (they will) they wrap up one wildcard spot. Then Pitt, KC, or SD has to win just 2 individual games to knock us out. Since one of the games is between SD and KC, there is one game that someone will win. How can relying on 4 teams not winning at least 2 of their final 3 games be the same as NE losing twice and then us beating them to wrap up the AFC East? Please explain!

I hope the Chargers win too. If we were ment to be in the playoffs then we would be. Anytime you have to hope someone else loses to get in you didn't do what you should have to get in on your own. Therefore you are what you are and we are not yet a playoff team. I don't want the Colts to go undefeated. Nor do I want to see Peyton Manning breaking this record. I wouldn't mind if another team went undefeated jsut not the Colts.

Have you seen SD and KC's schedule? It is about the same. Although I think we have a better shot at the wildcard.
