It was my determination that Laremy Tunsil was the best player in the 2016 draft at the end of Bowl Season and the beginning of January. I had him as the #1 overall prospect. Post #19 here I talked briefly about it....

I figured he'd go #1 overall to the Titans if they stayed put. Titans traded down which opened the door for a quarterback to go 1st overall. Although I firmly believed Tunsil was still a lock to go top 5. I never....never even gave any thought to the idea of Tunsil being available for Miami at #13. That's just not possible.

However, what transpired last night is easily the strangest and most bizarre hour of an NFL draft that I've ever witnessed. Not necessarily because of all the chaos that surrounded Laremy Tunsil's social media accounts being hacked in front of millions of people on the night of his life. Or because of incredibly strange pictures surfacing of somebody who looked like they were expecting chemical warfare to break out while they smoked a bong. Or even watching the best player in the draft tumble out of the top 10.

The strangest thing of all was watching the Miami Dolphins of all teams, finally benefit from the panic of other teams. Of course it had to be under this strange of circumstances in order to happen. But it happened nonetheless.

After it all unfolded, Miami made the only pick that made sense. They had to take Tunsil.

This wasn't good drafting or good scouting, or outsmarting everybody else. Not even close. We're going to find out if they're actually any good at drafting over the next 2 days. Miami just got lucky to end up with Tunsil. It's the 12 other teams that picked prior that forced this pick for Miami, not Miami.

Now, it's up to Laremy Tunsil to determine how good Laremy Tunsil is going to be. He should be motivated beyond belief to go out and prove himself after last night. If last night doesn't motivate him to come out and be the dominant player that he can be, then there's obviously a problem.

This kid is really one of the most naturally gifted offensive lineman that I've ever broken down. He doesn't even have to try. He makes it look easy. Tunsil's feet, balance, and frame allow him to coast through games. Even when the best pass rushers college football has to offer are lined up across from him. He's been a great player for Ole Miss from the day he walked on campus. He battled some injury issues, but Tunsil fulfilled his immense promise for the Rebels. No question.

All he has to do now is stay clean and focus. If he does that, he'll be representing Miami in the pro bowl every single year.

What Miami's coaches need to do, is make sure he's influenced by the Cam Wakes, Jarvis Landrys and Ja'Wuan James inside that locker room, and not the Mike Pounceys.

This is a grand slam pick for the Dolphins. Even if it doesn't workout, Miami has nothing to lose. Nobody can ever blame Miami for this pick in my opinion. They had to pick this player. This isn't even comparable to the Jake Long pick in 2008. This is entirely different for several reasons.

Agreed, and it's great to read someone as informed as you profess your happiness for the pick.

Looking at the post of yours that you linked, there is a conspicuous name still available on your underrated list: Alexander. I would be surprised if he lasted until the Dolphins pick, but crazier things have happened...last night, in fact crazier things have happened.

The rest of this draft needs to be defense-focused unless the Dolphins truly believe there is a can't-miss RB prospect. Unless Vance Joseph can turn water into wine (he may be able to, I've never partied with him), the Dolphins look like one of the most lopsided teams in the NFL. Fortunately for us, many of the names on the defensive side of the ball that should have been taken in round 1 are still available. It almost could not have fallen better for the Dolphins, in fact.

Can't wait for tonight!

So the fact that Grier had prior knowledge of the tape doesn't equate to good scouting? :ponder:

We got lucky no doubt, but our diligent scouting department obviously dug deep enough in not panicking nor being scared off like other organizations in drafting Tunsil. Kudus to them.

It's funny, when you think about it, Miami had no business having such detailed information on this kid. Who on earth had him outside of the top 10 when the day started.

There's a significant degree of difference between teams like San Diego or Baltimore choosing to err on the side of caution at #3 or #7 overall while there were still elite prospects available at positions of need for them, and Miami deciding to pass up the best player in the draft at #13 overall. They're different. That's the point I'm trying to get across.

Miami couldn't pass up this player at #13. Even they knew they couldn't.

I still give Miami props for not overthinking it and just pulling the trigger. But I agree with your assessment: This was a gift. Time to see what they can really do now.

I agree some credit has to be given to the FO for not being sheep. Several teams above Miami "had to pick Tunsil" but didn't.

FOs get lambasted for over thinking the draft. Refreshing to see us just sticking to our board.

The bigger issue is not that the video exists, its that he posted it during the draft, which now we know he didn't do as his accounts were hacked. So when did teams figure out that he didn't post the video himself?

lol I dont think anybody actually believed he posted it. The guy is not a ****ing idiot.

It was the contents of the video, as It was only "rumored" before it was posted.

If an NFL executive actually believed that Tunsil posted it himself, he/she should find the nearest toddler and hand their draft credentials over.

I did when I first saw it. It came from his own verified twitter account after all. Besides, if you're stupid enough to make and save a video like that its not a big stretch to believe he might also be stupid enough to post it.

When I first heard of this kids Bong incedent it reminded me of Dion jordan.
Then I watched his college/combine tape. He looks nible, good hips, upper body strength.
Looks legit. Now he just needs to focus on being an elite prospect for our team.
We needed a Olineman. RT needs a solid pocket. I'm hoping we get 1 more OLineman.
And get LB and CB. Maybe a DT and RB. Let's go get some studs.

He is in the green room and you think that is what he posts? Come on man.

It was not a smart move to be hanging with friends taking a video of that . . . But its not unthinkable. Guy probably only smoked joints his whole life and this was some amazing new way to get high for him and his boy was like "dawg i gotta get you on this". You aren't thinking somebody is gonna turn around and use that against you, especially with a group of associates around you.

It was a tuff mistake and he certainly paid for it . . . But one is a bad mistake the other is complete bat **** stupid.
