Here is how we will make the playoffs this year.

1) Avoid injuries -- I know this is mostly luck and not within our control, but it is necessary to win, especially given our lack of depth on D.

2) Get a decent QB -- Do you guys realize we played 5-6 football vs a tough stretch of teams with JOEY HARRINGTON at QB. If my memory serves me well JH is not good. It was Culpepper that killed us starting out vs 4 teams we wouldve easily beaten playing the way we did after he was benched. Also we went 9-7 and won 6 straight with GUS, who is no stud himself. It took some time for that offense to get going under a new system but once they did that and Ricky returned we were as good as most playoff teams that year. That was our last two seasons and those QBs were avg at best. This tells me we can instantly become at least a .500 team with a decent QB. So I suggest getting a veteran in here now that can play avg or better and draft a guy in hopes he will be a ready to play at a higher level within 2 years.

3) Get Ricky back-- RUN RICKY RUN. Face it, the guy is one of the best backs in the league. He was the catalyst in that run we made in 05'. With the R&R express back there our offense becomes alot more potent.

4) Get some guys who can cover out there at DB. Will Allen is solid. However, we still need to upgrade this area. I really like Darrelle Revis as a guy who can step in right away and start. Lets trade down and get him. He also returns kicks. I feel like Bell would be better as a backup at safety so both of those spots can use help. We also lack depth there and at LB. HB Blades would make an excellent 2nd round pick. Im not a Pitt fan btw. But, the phins D did play like the best in the league down the stretch. Don't forget they started out having some blown coverages and in the middle of the pack statistically. What they did the last 10 games was very impressive.

5) Make some touch ups on the OL and we should be ready to roll. The key is a good QB. That will make the line look much better and show you guys that these receivers are tough. Also Ricky coming back will improve the run game and as a result of that make the passing game better.

I really feel by doing these things we can contend for a playoff spot. LETS GO

Seriously, you need to put point 5 as point 1 and change OL touch ups to OL overhaul.

We are severly lacking not just in talent on the OL but actual bodies to play the position.

It all starts with the OL on offense, the QB can only throw if given time and the RB can only hit the holes the OL makes for him.

Just my opinion though!!! :dolphins:

Our offense averaged about 16 points a game last year.....our D basically won most of our games just by keeping us around.

Things are not going to change, and we are not going to win unless we start scoring more points. I think it all comes down to getting a better QB, and having a line that can give our QB time to throw and open up holes for Ronnie Brown.

If I may add one VERY important factoid...

We MUST win our division games! You can't make the playoffs without winning key games against your own division opponents.

Very good points. I would like to add, that even though a good qb can make an o-line look good, a good o-line can make and average qb even better.

Cam knows what he is doing, levi brown first round, drew stanton early second and another o lineman late second

I like it, and I agree with all of your points. However, as someone else stated, I would place the OL around priority #2. We must have lanes to run the ball through, and protection for our new Qb if we plan on making a serious playoff run this year. The left side of the line needs some help, and if Houck can get the most out of the bodies we supply this off-season, I'm expecting an impovement this year for sure. Last year was just pitiful, and it really killed our offense as a whole....

The defense should be in great shape this year with the addition of Porter, and our pass rush should be the best it's looked in years. That will make things much easier on our average secondary in my opinion. I also think that with Allen emerging, he and Bell will make a very solid duo at the S position....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Very well said. I couldnt agree more. Winning divisional games is paramount to any playoff push. With the competition in the AFC and specifically our own division, winning 10 games only means you have a chance to be in a tie break scenario. If that tie break involves a team in your division, it can wreck your whole tiebreaks owned by beating other teams in the South, North and West.

Most importantly though, arent you just sick of losing to the Jets

While we are adding factors to the list, heres a big one. Maybe we won't try so many $%* @(#*&# field goals this season with Saban gone. How many games did he cost us by attempting long field goals on 4th and short around the 30? Both Jets games for starters. At times he would do it when the offense was actually in a rhythm too. To me it is simple math. 2 FGs = 6 pts. 1 TD = 6 pts plus a PAT try. So if you are successful on those 4th down you should be able to either guarentee a FG because it is closer or wind up converting a TD.

I remember the Green Bay game we went for a long one when I felt we needed a TD in the 4th quarter. I remember saying when he sent Mare out that if he missed this were crippled. The field position off a miss at that range puts them in excellent position to go up 3 scores. I think we were down 10 or 13 and the offense was in a rhythm. Sure enough Farve threw a TD on the first play and put the game away. The chances of making that kick were really no better than converting that 4th down anyways.

That 2nd Jets game was the worst though. Im sure you all knew we shouldve tried to win it with a TD late in that game.

I will miss Mare. His ability to kick the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs is a much greater asset than making 50+ FGs. Saban had him try too many kicks. I will not make excuses like that dirt for Mare though. He missed kicks he shouldve made a few times dirt or no dirt. Still of the 10 he missed plenty of those were 50+ tries. Lets not make excuses though, we have to save those for Daunte.

Starting by saying I'm a Bills fan so take what I have to say how ever you want. Anyway here goes-

This isn't a playoff year for the Fins it's another rebuilding year. That isn't smack it is just the way it is.

The Pats and the Jets are looking like the only legitimate playoff contenders in the AFC East. The Dolphins, just like the Bills, need to be looking at this season as the 1st year in a 4-5 year plan to build a team and not just temporarily patch some holes.

The Fins have a 4th place schedule so they will win some games and if by some miracle of God (and no he is NOT a Fin fan) the Fins do make it to the playoffs what then? No addition to this team is going to make the Fins Superbowl contenders. More than likely they wouldn't go deep into the post season and then you are back to wondering what holes to patch for the upcoming season.

I know saying that the defense is getting older has been overstated but it's true. You bolster the offense this year and you'll be rebuilding the entire defense in the next few years. By the time you get the defense rebuilt and you'll have to rebuild the offense in the next couple years.

I think you have to try and build the offense and defense up evenly and become a balanced team. Sacrificing the playoffs for a few years to build a team that can make the playoffs for the better part of a decade seems a better idea to me.

It ought to be an interesting draft for our two teams to say the least.

The OL is 1 player away from being 'very Good'. the right side was excellent, the running game yielded 4yds/carry but was under utilized ( Thanks Mularkey).

The reason our secondary gets burned on 3rd and long is because we have no 'real' pass rush other than JT. Zach is a beast going side to side, but he can not blitz. Neither can the other LB's. Porter opposite JT just improved our secondary. Trust me. A QB on the run, or on his ***, isn't going to pick apart our coverage. keep Zach in coverage and send JT, Porter, and Roth and we'll be fine.

with our 1st 3 picks we need an OL and QB someonewhere in there.

We still need to bring in Green or Carr to compete with Culpepper.

If we can accomplish that....?we are looking like a play-off team.
