It's one game were he played pretty bad, but I think this may be a blessing in disguise. I think Penny is now the undisputed starter, if Henne lights it up, does it create a distraction for the team as who should be the starter? Also, I would rather have him struggle a bit in the pre season, and not have it all come easy as apposed to breezing through the pre season and getting a rude awakening should Penny go down in the regular season. Without failure, you will nevr know sucess! As bad as he played, I still liked the way he stood in the pocket and looked confortable.

Great point Stang. Henne needs to sit and watch for a year or 2. Hopefully Penne stays healthy and Henne doesn't have to face the prospect of playing due to injury.

Penny is clearly the starter... Henne is another 1-2 seasons away... no need to rush him.. learn the system and watch the vet Penny lead this team

I think Pennington was going to be starting, regardless. However, your point is a valid one. The biggest problem is how this relates to who the Fins keep at QB. If Henne played well and solidified the staffs confidence in him as the #2 guy, it's much easier to keep Beck at #3 and dump Josh. That scenario has better long term potential (Beck's value can likely only go up). If there are questions about Henne being ready as a #2 guy, then there might be a desire to keep Josh as #2.

Did you guys see Penny talking to Ginn on the side line, going over the over head pics? You could tell they were into it, and Ginn was getting what Penny said, pretty freaking cool! I really dogged the Penny signing at first, but he has won me over. I think he has been very good for the Team in multiple ways.

Reality sets in...he finally saw some pressure and now maybe has to deal with a little heat from his mates, I hope he takes the high road and really looks at this as an opportunity to learn!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. We know he needs our support now more than ever, it's when things get rough,
that's when you learn who your real friends are. Go Dolphins

All we need to see is see him improve on his mistakes. He tries to fit that ball into some tight space, and in that case you win some and surely you're going to lose some. He has the guts! He has an NFL arm. He's also supposed to be a quick learner so I'm sure he'll improve. How much is the question...

I'm still not very comfortable about a backup right now! I'm pretty comfortable with the starter, and the future but if Penny goes down there will be a big drop off for a while...imo

Also, this is the first game where teams actually gameplan. So I'll look at it as a learning experience for Henne. He had some planned blitz packages thrown at him, and a couple of stunts as well.

He did make a couple of nice throws, and especially that fit into a tight space to Bess near the goaline.

The thing that stands out to me is how he didn't seem to get over the pick, going 0-3 on his next possesion and without poise,....got to learn to let go of that. I really thought he had his first TD drive and it would have been real uplifting to his overall progress. I think his performance really hinged on that one play, so how is that QB rating now? not so good, but I hope this helps put things in perspective for him. Just because it's preseason, doesn't mean it counts any less when it comes to learning.

I've always thought that Pennington would be the starter in both of the years he signed for. If Henne pushes him before that contract is up, it's a bonus. Hopefully Henne can continue to learn, and isn't thrust in the spotlight too soon due to an injury. He's gonna have nights like this.

Henne is the future. Pennington is now. I am just glad to have both for once.

true, what you like to see in a QB is passion, leadership and raw talent.

Penny shows all of the above and i must admit i'm stunned he picked up things so fast here, im pretty happy bout it

I guess.....

At least if Pennington struggles early on people might not be so quick to say "GO TO HENNE!". Even though this was just one game, one PRE-SEASON game and really says NOTHING about Henne, i am kind of relieved that is had cooled off people preparing his place in Canton.

Well, Sparano made it clear in his press conference that Henne would get an earfull after they look at the tape, and especially for the int in the endzone.
