Positives....

Kendal Langford: The guy has been impressive! He stuffs the run, and he's really been getting pressure up field on pass situations. He's still very very young and has a lot to prove but this guy is a star DE in the 3-4 and could be one of the best some day.

Cameron Wake: At times he was getting around the edge like there was nothing to it last night. Wake has done nothing but make life differicult for opposing QB's all preseason. His pass rushing ability is very impressive and he's probably got the best speed rush on the team. He's not ready to be a full time player at OLB for us but in passing situations this guy is definately an asset.

Brian Hartline: Semmed to run good routes and I don't recall him dropping any passes. Penny seemed to be looking for him a lot and I don't know if that was planned but it's a good sign for Hartline either way. If not for the bad offensive pass interference call Hartline would have had over 100 yards recieving which is something we don't see a whole lot of in Miami.

Paul Solai: He played very well last night, and I'm not just talking about his sack. In fact he has played very well all preseason and this kid just might be our answer as a future NT. I'm not sure what it is, maybe he's gotten stronger, or his technique is that much better but it's just seemed to click for him this offseason.

Greg Camarillo: The big catch and run he had showed no ill effects of that injury, that in itself is a big positive for the Phins.

Vontae Davis: He played well, was pretty solid in coverage from what I saw and this kid is a sure tackler.... you gotta love that. In my opinion he outplayed Sean Smith last night.

Chad Pennington: A few off throws in the beginning but he came back nicely hitting some nice throws(even a few deep ones on target) and was very good in the pocket. That TD to Fasano was nothing short of great and it was a play that Henne just would not have made. There really is NO question of who should be the starting QB for this team and that question has been rediculous anyway.... despite his lack of arm stregth he can still make most of the throws and is EASILY the smartest and best QB we've had here in a very very long time.

Pass Rush: The defense as a whole was after the QB all night, it's been a trend so far this preseason and if the secondary can hold coverage just a decent amount of time then this team is going to have a Lot of sacks this year. They have been bringing from all angles and with many differen't players, I Love it!!!

Coach Sporano: Can't help but love this guy as our Head Coach! He gets after players when they make mistakes and holds them accountable. At the same time when someone makes a nice play he's pumped up and lets them know it. His intensity for a preseason game was such a great thing to watch. So far I really don't see any faults in this man as a Coach and we are lucky to have him.

Negatives....

-The OL still isn't getting it done especially with run blocking. If you had to point a finger on why our offense looked so bad at the beginning of the game this is the unit I would have singled out.
-Chad Henne just looks bad right now, he played better last preseason than he has this one. IDK what it is but one thing is seemingly for sure...... we are in trouble if Pennington goes down.
-Sean Smith had his troubles in coverage and the "Shutdown Sean" or "Lock Smith" nicknames can probably go away for now. I still think Smith will be a very good player for us but he's a rookie and he's going to go through some growing pains.
-It wasn't just Smith, but the entire secondary struggled and this may be more of a concern than I originally thought.
-Patrick Turner where are you?
-Lets get some contact in practice so these defenders can remember how to tackle. I think the secondary players are our best tacklers which is a crying shame.

All in all I think our beloved Phins will be alright this season. The pourus offense we saw in this game is Not expected in the regular season. They were very vanilla on this side of the ball and you just get the feeling they don't want to show their hand before the real games start. The OL and Secondary are concerns though.

Positives....

Greg Camarillo: The big catch and run he had showed no ill effects of that injury, that in itself is a big positive for the Phins.

Sure about this? I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm pretty sure his left knee (which was the injured one) gives out on the break to catch that ball. And he was pretty darn slow after the catch, running sort of gimpy. But as always, his effort was 110%.

The move he made to stay in bounds and then slip the tackle I don't think he makes on a bad knee. Camarillo has always been slow BTW...

I have to agree with this....I dont know if its just not completely healed yet, or if the injury actually took away that much of his speed. I would definately pup him for the fuirst 6 weeks....something with him isn't completely there yet.

Not saying his knee is still bad, but that he may not be fully recovered. I gotta go see the replay again on my DVR (at work now), but when he broke towards the sideline on his cut there was a little give. It's just a small sign that the knee may be a little weaker than 100%.

For sure he's a slow dude, just seemed a bit slower than normal. I think if you compare that run versus the run after the game-winning catch in 2007 you'll see a difference in his run. Anyways, no need to beat a dead horse, just something I noticed, and for me, convinces me he needs to start out on PUP.

I'm not sure why the Dolphins would not want to show too much on the offense...last week they played several wildcat plays that everyone has seen...teams know that the Dolphins use the wildcat...yet for the most part...the Dolphins were able to make gains on the field. You don't show everything...but what you do show...just makes the defense think and have to prepare for it.

Correct.. Camarillo has always been slow.. he just has a knack of getting open.. Speaking of receivers.. see that catch bess made last night falling out of bounds.. What a beauty! Too bad it was a little over thrown.

I have been thoroughtly disappointed with Partick Turner. I've been expecting alot more from him... I don't recall hearing his name once.

Yea they showed the same wildcat plays they used all last season. It's nice when teams have to spend extra time preparing for someting that you do well, but it's even better to not have them know what you're doing when you do it.

the most impressive thing to me was holding the Bucs to three FG attempts. we were -3 in turnover margin. we lost TOP by almost 10 minutes, still the Bucs had little to show for. defensively, we did ok. we must certainly improve, but we settled in after the rain delay and actually played well. we held their O to 33 % on 3rd down, so we did get better there as well.

offensively, there's little to get excited about. our OL got pushed around pretty badly in run blocking. our QBs didn't seem to get into much of a rhythm either.

I see it differently...the more you show...the more teams you will face during the season have to prepare for. Great teams could care less that other teams know what they are going to do...they still make plays.

The important part is you need to do your plays right....every time.

I got home, last night, in time for the delay. There were alot of mental mistakes I saw but those can be corrected. If D Thomas is not starting on the OL something is wrong.

I knew Chad P would lead the team before half and get some points.

Wake IMO is improving in dropping into pass coverage.

I love Sparano's intensity & honesty.

Is it just me or do the phins always struggle against Tampa in the preseason? Why tip your hand too much when these two play for real on 11/15.

If Wannstedt were the coach, I'd be real concerned. The phins won't sneak up on anyone this yr. However, with all the drama regarding the other teams in the AFCE, Miami should be able to fly under the radar somewhat and still make some noise.

Honestly, I am not truly great things this year. 2010 is a different story!

we always seem to struggle against Tampa Bay, pre-season or regular season. same with Houston. i can't really explain that. just as i can't explain how we always seem to have the upper hand against San Diego.

NEGATIVES - 1) The play of the 1st team secondary ... it looked like they were in man to man coverage and NOT the cover 4 we heard so much about in the offseason!!! Could it be, they were playing a VINALLA DEFENSE in the secondary.. it that possible? 2) the run defense was asleep in the 1st quarter... and 3) the backup o-line was terrible in the 4th quarter!!! POSITIVES - 1) The outstanding play of the 2nd unit in the later part of the 2nd quarter ... they really took it to the Bucs!!! 2) Vontae Davis this guy is a beast against the run 3) Quentin Moses and Cam Wake seemed to be in the backfield all game long!!! 4) Brian Hartline, took a beating and kept on getting up .. they were testing him physically and he smacked em' right back with his play!!!

There is a reason why coaches don't just hand opposing teams their playbook, and they only have open practices during the summer for so long. Remember how we completely caught New England off guard with the Wildcat when we first brought it out? It didn't work quite as well when we played them the second time now did it?

I don't know, when they showed the angle from the defensive side of the ball the guy chasing him didn't catch up at all. he got caught from someone on the other side of the field.
