Can we Win The One Game? The Proof Is in The Pudding
I have a few things that I would like to talk about that I feel are being overlooked by some. Most people on this site seem to be fairly realistic about the team. However, we are all guilty of having that certain something that kind of hits a funny spot, which comes with the territory of being a true fan. Some are just clearly insane. One thing that I have come to notice (how can you not) is our ability to play the close game. At this point I have determined that it is more a philosophy rather than a continued outcome of ineptness. The team has obviously created a basic game plan to start from and it has a few important aspects. Win the turnover battle, bend don’t break, manage the clock, control momentum, be in position to control your destiny at the end of the game. One thing that has really surprised me is the fact that we have won so many close games, and for a team who was 1-15 last year and could not win a close one this is truly impressive. What do I attribute this to? Obviously coaching has a big deal to do with it and our consistent ability to stick to our guns and play the game as we decide it will be played has helped. I really believe that the intention of this was purely a look to the future mentality and to be as successful may be a pleasant surprise to everyone inside the organization. They came in with the idea that winning must be relearned and for the players to buy in and succeed so quickly shows great promise for the young players this organization is molding.
I see a lot of disgust for certain things that we should take a deeper look at. Ginn is one thing, he has improved and I see him being a steady (probably not ever dominate) force that we will grow to truly appreciate. Ronnie not getting enough carries. He had major knee surgery last year and these things take time. Not only is the FO aware of this and are making an effort to protect him they are creating a well rested set of Rbs that will be strong at the end of the year. They are taking this approach to the whole team. Our D-line is being managed very well and they will be a well rested and more developed unit when the season’s end draws near. I know that all the time we hear 1 game at a time but great teams are built and managed with the idea that the season is the battle and each game plays a role, but you must be strong at the end for any of it to truly matter. This is why I am so encouraged that we have a great leadership unit and we will be extremely satisfied down the line.
With all the success we have had so far you can see through the details that there is a method to all. We are being built from the ground up, philosophically, mentally, and physically. We are going to be in the position at the end to play one game for everything. Now does this team, who has had so much success when all the pressure has been on all year, have a chance to pull it off, I think that the proof is in the pudding.
