The Pros of Mike Martz

Before u guys bash me for this, just listen up...
The fins biggest problem for years and years since the retirement of Marino has always been the QB position. Mike Martz could easily solve that problem. Look at his past and u will see that the guy does wonders with no named, garbage QBs. 1 of the biggest steals in the draft, Marc Bulger, picked something like 168th overall in the draft is now an NFL pro bowler. Hes an amazing QB. Kurt Warner in his incredible years with the Rams. He was undrafted (I believe), didnt even start on his college fball team till he was a 5th year senior. Yet he goes on and wins a super bowl. Trent Green played for Washington and guess who his QB coach was, yup Mike Martz. And Trent Green didnt turn out too bad, did he. (2nd best QB rating since 2001, only behind Manning) Even Mike Fitzpatrick last year, 7th rounder from Harvard? i believe, he had one good game as a 3rd stringer lol.. The guy knows offense and he knows how to make his QBs play to the best of their ability. Imagine what he could do with Cpep, Harrington, or Lemon. Another thing people dont realize is that with the Rams, Martz didnt have much of a defense so thats an easy reason to say he didnt do too well there, even tho they went back to the SB i believe? With the fins, he would have Capers still running that amazing D, and Martz essentially being a HC but more like an OC.

There are 2 things that concern me with Martz, the Running game, and Defence. If Martz becomes the coach, I have faith that he would make the offence good, but I dont want to see this defence turn into anything similar to the one that he turned STL's into while he was the head coach. I would prefer a different option, but there is worse coaches then Martz.

Totally Agree! At first I didn't like the idea of Martz because he had such a smug look when he was at the Rams - the perception of having booted Vermeil out after the SB and he just seemed like an arrogant jerk. BUT the more you look at what he has accomplished he seems like the perfect fit. We need a major offensive shakeup! Who better than him? He has turned avg QB"s into stars and we could sure as heck use that magic. IF you can keep Capers - one of the best DC's in the game - pay him big and lock him up - you could realistically have a great coaching staff. I'm just not sure of Martz and Capers ability to co-exist but they are both great coordinators. The issue is Martz would have to be the HC because he is already an OC and under contract with Detroit.

RB could be great receiver out of the backfield if actually used. It would be awesome to see Miami come up to the line 3 and 4 wide and open things up instead of this 2 TE and a FB crap we run and try and pound it up the middle. Today's game is more open. Our problem is we NEED some better WR's or maybe a new system would actually showcase these guys talent much better and get them involved in the game. Get rid of the 5 mil per year TE and give it to a play maker at WR who can stretch the field.

Huizenga is already willing to pay Capers the big bucks to keep him here working with the defense. So im sure if Martz gets the hire, he knows the D will look good so his main focus will be to work his magic and turn this offense around. Its a huge challenge for him but I think hes up for it.
Capers=defensive genius

Martz= offensive genius

WOW!

I never thought I would say this but I agree - Martz and Capers seem like the best fit by far! Seems like a no brainer when you really look at it. The only catch is can the two co-exist?

You guys realize that bringing in Martz would ensure an offensive performance in 2007 much like 2006, right? Just subtract the gimmick plays, and there you go: a journeyman quarterback throwing the ball all over the field, our star running backs being used in blocking or bench-warming.

Martz doesn't like Culpepper. Martz doesn't like running the football. That means he would start Harrington. Do we really have to go through that again?

Plus with more open sets on offense, watch out for Ricky and Ronnie.. They are going to have some sick YPC averages. Defenses wont know if were running up the middle, going long, or throwing it to the flats where Ricky and Ronnie can create big yards for themselves. That is one dangerous offense. Getting the MOST out of your offensive playmakers... That is Martz's philosophy.

Martz's philosophy is "throw, throw, throw." Kind of like Mularkey's philosophy this past year, minus the trick plays. Martz does not call many running plays. Williams and Brown would suffer under Martz, not thrive.

What are you talking about? If theres ANYTHING this guy knows, its OFFENSE. He will get this offense going, actually scoring TDs- Which is what we need. I dont care how we get those TDs, whether its running with Ronnie or Throwing Deep Posts to Chambers, we need points, bottom line.
In the 06 season, if the Dolphins would have averaged 20 ppg, we would have had a record of 11-5, I believe.

As much as I just can't stand Martz, having him and Capers together would win a lot of games, possibly a SB. I would rather have Martz as an OC with someone else as HC, but as long as we kept Capers I could definitely live with Martz. Just worry about his lack of commitment to the running game.

In this past season with the Lions, there main reason for throwing so much is simple.. THE WORST OFFENSIVE LINE IN THE NFL PLUS THE SEASON ENDING INJURY TO THEIR ONLY REAL RUNNING BACK. Of course u gotta pass when u got big, tall, unstoppable Roy Williams, a second 100 reception reciever in Mike Furrey and a QB, who although makes some bad decisions can throw the ball.
If he came here and he had Ricky and Ronnie, he'd run the ball more.. plus something positive, he uses his running backs more in the passing game. Ronnie will actually be used MORE next year, not less like some people keep saying.

Do you even know how Martz runs an offense, or have you simply heard "Martz is an offensive genius" so many times that you've come to believe it?

Again: the guy calls passing play after passing play after passing play. He does not run a balanced offense. There is nothing to indicate he would use this team's biggest offensive investments: Daunte Culpepper and Ronnie Brown. He has expressed displeasure with Daunte Culpepper, and he would not call the 25+ running plays Ronnie Brown should be getting each game.

What he would do is tap Joey Harrington to start. He would have Joey Harrington pass, pass, and pass some more. If you watched ANY game of this 2006 season, you know what happens when Joey Harrington throws the ball: it's either ruled uncatchable, dropped by the receiver, or flat-out intercepted.

No Martz.

Lions were always down , thats why they passed more... that with Kevin Jones out half the year, plus having the worst oline in the nfl, of course u gotta pass more

No. Ignoring the running game is Martz's philosophy.
