The race for last place

To the person who calls himself the Confessor our D is not 7th best our D was hidden on the sidelines and we dnt have that strong a side to go toe to toe with average teams like Clevelend then we are in bad shapoe - Our plodding Offense helped hide our D by keeping them off the field

I believe you misread his post.

NO theyre not. Miami has a worse division and conference record than STL, and that puts us ahead of them in the draft slotting. From what I remember, and ill look it up later, the draft slotting goes by:

1) Overall win/loss record
2) Division record
3) Conference record
4) Common opponents record
5) Coin flip

Actually Miami is #3.

Colts just gave Manning a five year extension. He's only 33. Marino played for 16 years and Manning will be entering his 14th year next year. I don't see him stepping aside quickly. Also, keep in mind that Manning is about 17000 yards and 200 TDs away from the record books for career stats. He has a clear shot at either record if he plays 5-6 more years. I think it would have to be a Joe Montana or Brett Favre like forced breakup.

The alternative is obviously drafting Luck and having him set for 3-5 years. I have a strong feeling that Luck would NOT be ok with a situation like this unless he is guaranteed a shot at starting by his second year. I mean what QB would be?

Like someone said, the Luck situation is different from the Aaron Rodgers situation. Rodgers was a questionable 1st rounder having come out of Cal and the Tedford system that produced a lot of busts. A lot of teams passed on his and the Packers pretty much made it clear that he had to wait Favre out. He couldnt tell the Packers no because he could lose first round money. Luck has much more leverage.

The MOST likely scenario is that, if the Colts or Rams get the first pick, they THREATEN to draft Luck. Then they use all the leverage they can, and force other teams to compete with each other in order to get as much back in a trade for the 1st pick. Could we conceivably see a team trade its entire draft for a shot at getting Luck, ala Ditka? If we dont get the first pick, or if some other team does that has a QB does, I think it is going to be an all out bidding war to trade for that pick.

Owner Jim Irsay indicated Monday that the Colts would be willing to take a quarterback like Stanford QB Andrew Luck in the 2012 NFL draft.

The Colts and Rams are the only two teams without a win on the season. "Guys like that come along so rarely," Irsay said, referring to Peyton Manning and Luck. "Even if that means that guy sits for three or four years, you'd certainly think about taking him ... you see what Green Bay did with [Brett] Favre and [Aaron] Rodgers and you'd like to be able to do the same thing." Manning will be 36 in March and is recovering from multiple neck surgeries.

Not sure why rotoworld said colts and rams are the only two teams that are winless. Either way I think if the Broncos, Chiefs, or Colts get #1 they will take Luck. I think we can still get a good QB top 5 pick. Unfortunately I don't think we get the #1 pick.

The Cardinals are awful and afflicted by the injury bug. Signing Kolb is turning into a fiasco (well not for us since the ridiculous deal they gave both him and Philly set an unrealistic high watermark that probably helped to keep Orton off our roster). If they can flip him, and/or find other ways to deflate their cap, they're definitely a player. (A few weeks ago, despite their 1 win, I was one of the only warning not to sleep on Denver..and now I'm calling AZ too)

What downer Kolb has been.. and predictably so. So many times we see thebackup get highly touted and promoted in the media with avery little body of work to substantiate a benchmark for success. heck even Cassel in KC isn't the Savior everyone thought him to be. I guess nobody learned from our AJ Feely debacle.

Glad it isn't us!

Yep. I was never even impressed with Kolb when he was with the Eagles and that amazing Offense.

I understand what AZ did to some extent. They have probably the best WR in the league, and no way to get him the rock, but this move will handcuff them for a decade.

Orton and Kolb just weren't upgrades from Chad Henne . . . period. Even a guy like Flynn wouldn't have been an upgrade . . . and none of them are worth trading 2nd or 3rd round picks for. The hate for this regime would have been compounded had any of those moves been made, yet many of those that would have been hating were in favor of making those moves. Ironic how that works, yet accountability only shows up when that group of haters is right.

Carson Palmer was the only potential upgrade I saw, but at that price tag and draft pick compensation you rather dive into a nice looking QB class in 2012 while giving Henne another shot. I don't think Miami made a mistake with their QB position this offseason outside of pulling the trigger on a guy like Mallet in round 3 (which they should of done, just to have a guy they could think about using right now).

This isn't a last place team talent wise, however if the OLine doesn't step up, it very well could be. I watched Jay Cutler be unbelievable last night behind a horrid oline and that oline is probably not as bad as ours and we have no QB's as good as Jay Cutler. That is a problem. The defensive lapses have to stop.

I dunno, comming off a bye week, I wanna see how well Miami plays this week up at the Jets. A big win could do wonders for them going forward. Seriously, unless Marc Colombo showed tremendous improvement over the bye week . . . if he is starting and he is a liability during the game against the Jets, I am done with Sparano. The OLine is the downfall of this team and stubborn moves has done absolutely nothing to correct the situation.

The draft positioning has nothing to do with any of that (aside from the overall W/L record, obviously). For teams tied in the W/L column, tie-breakers rely entirely on strength of schedule. The team with the easier SOS drafts sooner than the team with the harder SOS in round 1. After the first round, the teams trade positions for round two, and continue to flip-flop throughout the remainder of the draft. The coin flip does come into play if the teams end up with identical SOS.

the Dolphins are so irrelevant, that people forget about them.....

Did anyone watch the colts game yesterday? I'm wondering if it's my sick mind or did anyone else notice colts were up 24-7, then after halftime colts got in kc territory one time and didn't come close to scoring. Clark drops a pass he never drops? To me it looked like owner and gm told coaches and players to stop trying and to lose the game. They made it look good by scoring in first half. It's much easier to lay down in 2nd half rather than the other way around. I bet colts won't win one game and manning doesn't come back this year, they will say they have no chance of playoff so why risk manning health. Let him get healthy for next year. What's your thoughts?

I smell a rat...first to worst in a off-season.

I've said this for a while now, but I just can't see where a Colts win is coming from.

The Rams are another team that just doesn't look like winning any games, although their division should surely see them pick up at least a couple before the end of the year.

Denver have a lot of problems too, although the change to Teebow will help them (not necessarily for his WB ability but more for the will to win, fan galvinisation and leadership qualities), thank god the FO didn't give over next year's 2nd for Orton, like lots on here were advocating.

KC have picked up in recent weeks, 1 or 2 more wins and they are probably out of reach for us.

Jacksonville could be the dark horses here, they've looked far from impressive in any iof their games this year, they maybe a team that could potentially give the Colts a win.

I still can't see us finishing last, surely there's a win or two there for us this year, Denver for our next home game could very well be it. 1 win might take us out of the running, as I'm sure we'll lose any tie breaker based on SoS, coin toss or just damn dolphins luck.

I watched Landry Jones on Saturday again and once again he impressed the heck out of me, so there are options out there outside Luck, but there is no denying that the team that drafts Luck will be transformed for years to come, the other QB prospects just don't have that kind of certainty about them.

Well, actually our D was very good last year. Top 7 all around IIRC.

We will shock some teams, and hopefully the debbie doubters along with them

6th or 7th who cares we couldn't stand up to any decent teams our Punter was our best defender next to Wake

Last years D doesn't translate into diddly squat this year - too many factors to consider when looking into the following season

And I wasn't trtying to insult you, if I were I would do a great job of it, I was jsut using your screen name you chose it - I like it :lol:
