Okay look fellow fin fans. I know after every game alot of you are on here posting all your negative threads and talking about how you have gave up on certain players, but lets take an honest look at this game.

We just played one of the best teams in the NFL. We just played against one of the best quarterbacks of all time. And i think we can all agree from last week to today we look a million times better. I know a lot of u are jumping on the Henne band wagon, not so fast. We all know Pennys arm strength is not that of other qbs, and we all say he cant utilize Ginn properly because of it but I think tonight showed us alot. Penny is a game manager, look at our 3rd down percentage tonight i think it was around 75%, that is awesome for ANY nfl team. We can run the ball and we can stop the run. Watch all the film you want this is what we lack. We do not have a BIG play receiver on this team. Ginn who should be that guy was hit in the hands with not one but two touchdown passes tonight. You cant blame that one on Penny. While our defense is ok against the run our dbs are not playing great but are ok. But our linebackers are terrible in coverage. Teams through at our backers all day long. While we did play much better today and would have beat any other team 9 time out of 10 tonight these two problems have to be addressed. I’m not jumping on any bandwagon im just saying there is a very good and young receiver in San Francisco right now not playing and who could be trade bait. If he does not sign by NOV 17 the niners have to trade him or he re-enters the draft. Pull the string Parcells we need it.

Thoughts?

I think our offense played really well. The announcers were talking about how we were controlling things and steam rolling the Colts with our running game. I think the problem we have on offense is we don't have a #1 wide receiver and Ginn is only 5'11." He is not big enough/strong enough to be a #1. I think the only small #1 wide receiver is Steve Smith and he is much stronger then Ginn.

We need a large wide receiver with great hands like Randy Moss/Andre Johnson/T.O.....maybe Patrick Turner can be a temporary fix but I think our receivers are pretty average. I love Michael Crabtree as I am a fan of Texas Tech and watch a lot of their games. If he became available he would be a great addition, but you have to wonder about his crazy salary demands and whether he would turn into a primma donna and threaten to hold out every time he doesn't get his way. We do need a #1 WR regardless of who it is.

Kudos and props to our offense except for the ugly last three minutes of the Game. I don't have many good things to say about the Defense. They played like crap pretty much all around.

Actually, if Crabtree does not sign soon, he will not be able to play this year and cannot be traded by the Niners. In fact, once this time frame passes, he cannot negotaite a contract with the Niners until Mrach.

Crabtree is not the answer. Trading a 1st round pick for him certainly is not the answer either. There are no quick fixes in the NFL - this is not the NBA.

The offense, with all of it's issues regarding explosiveness and lack of chunk plays and a weak armed QB, played well enough to win. They controlled the ball for 45 minutes and scored 23 points.

The defense was a major disappointment because every time the offense controlled the ball for a 7 minute drive, the defense would allow the Colts a huge play or series of plays to strike right back.

This team is flawed fundamentally on both sides. They can mask the issues and they will be in position to win if the stars align:

-- win turnover battle
-- limit negative yardage
-- win special teams
-- limited penalties
-- convert third downs
-- limit 3rd down conversions of opponent

This is the recipe for Miami to win. Good teams can win in a variety of ways. Miami can't.

Crabtree will not fix this. The fact is, Miami will be moving on from pennington after this year - until they hitch their wagon to an explosive QB, they will continue have one recipe for winning football games.

The real issue is that the team just isn't that good and last year was a case of lightening striking.

We are very weak up the middle of our D (I LB and FS especially) have no ability to get chunk plays offensively. I think they win 5 or 6 games tops this year.

We are still two good drafts away from contending assuming we can find a QB.

Contending? We were contending last night. If our D makes just one big play (Wilson makes the INT) or Ginn catches the TD, we win. We were "contending" last night. We are not elite, but we are still a solid team.

Your list is flawed if you think just in terms of Miami. If we don't have ToP, we lose. Almost any team can win if they take care of all that is listed.

Thus, the bolded statement, is incorrect.

The problem with trading for Crabtree is that we face the same problem that the Niners did - signing him. I doubt he will give us a discount just because we traded for him. So now we have two unproven receivers earning top 10 money.

If we're going to give up at least one high draft pick and a big contract, I'd rather give it someone who has a track record like Marshal.

IF. The time of possession was 3:1 and the game was still close. This team isn't contending for anything anytime soon. We need playmaking LB's and a pair of safeties that can tackle first.

The deadline to trade rookie players has long passed, way back in August.. Crabtree cannot be traded this year under any circumstances, according to the CBA.

Not until the off season. He either signs with San Fran by that deadline, or he re-enters the draft. If they trade his rights it can't be til next year at the very earliest.

Thanks for the info, I wonder what the reasoning is for such an early trading deadline for rookies.

If Crabtree renters the draft, do you know if the Niners receive any kind of compensatory pick? It seems rather unfair that they would lose such a high pick solely because their pick is stupid.
