There has been a ton of banter going back and forth regarding the newest candidate, Mike McCoy, for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job. I also see some misinformation regarding his candidacy and a definite disconnect in people's logic that are against him. Others here have advocated for him or at the very least seem to be doing their homework on him as a coach. McCoy would make a very quality head coach for where this team is going. He should be considered a very intriguing candidate at the very least.

Coaching Ability
* Impressive that in midstream, McCoy altered an offense to fit the skill set of Tim Tebow and the talent of the Broncos in order to find ways to win. It is the essence of coaching to make adjustments to help a team win. Many around here point to other coordinators with incredible rankings. McCoy's offense this year was not lighting up the scoreboard. However, McCoy may have had the worst throwing QB in the NFL yet found a way to move the ball with adjustments and scheme. Those that like a Pete Carmichael or Joe Philbin must also concede that those offenses have amazing talent and are far more talented than Denver. By the way, Denver did lead the NFL in rushing yards.

* Coaching is about getting the most out of the talent that is given. He seems to be able to construct an offense around the talent presented to him.

* He is not coming to Miami with the option. He is talented enough to devise a scheme to fit the talent.

* Performed well as Denver's OC under the hot public spot light of Tebow Mania

* I believe the Fins will trade a boat load of picks for RGIII. At the very least, it is a possibility. Whether we agree on that move or not, that debate is for another thread. However, with the nice work McCoy did with Tebow, it is easy to see him being able to tailor an offense around RGIII's unique skill set.

History with QB's
* As an assistant coach at various levels with Carolina, he helped Jake Delhomme to four 3,000 yard seasons and a Pro Bowl.
* Helped Jake Delhomme get to a Super Bowl.
* Under McCoy's watch, Kyle Orton easily had his best statistic output under McCoy in 2009 and 2010.
* Tim Tebow did show some signs of improvement this season with his mechanics and technique.

Coaching Staff
* Mike Nolan and Mike McCoy were coordinators in Denver together with Josh McDaniels. With a year left on his contract, perhaps that is why Miami has not let Mike Nolan leave just yet. This in turn would allow a productive defense to continue on as a 3-4.

History with current Dolphins and possible FA QB's
* McCoy has coached Matt Moore while in Carolina as the QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator
* Coached Brandon Marshall to solid numbers and career high 10 TD's
* Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn are both FA's and might be worth taking a flyer on...

Miscellaneous
* Younger guy as he is 39 years old. He could be a guy that we grow with over time.
* Considered an upcoming coach. Perhaps we snag a coach on the rise.
* McCoy is very articulate. I urge people to Google search videos of his interviews. People will quickly love his ability to speak. This is needed to explain to the fans where the Miami Dolphins are going here on forward. He is a fresh face that will successfully be able to share the vision of this team. I bet he killed the interviewed today.
* People talk about that McCoy will not sell tickets. It is not about the guy roaming the sideline in khaki pants and sneakers. What will sell is about the hope given with offseason moves. It is about the quarterback. Ultimately, the play on the field is what will sell tickets and spark interest.
* Raiders are going to interview him and Jacksonville wanted to before going with Mike Mularkey. Mike McCoy is a respected coach that interests many teams in the league.

I do not know if Mike McCoy gets the job. There are some good people Miami has interviewed. However, I think if McCoy does get the job, we should rally around him and embrace what he will bring to the Dolphins.

Ok, in the military, not only do they look over your history, they also look over a picture to pick a group of guys for promotion...

Nice. Very comprehensive. I'd like to see someone take the time to create these evenhanded rundowns on all the candidates. It would help to inform a lot of people here.

Hey, I like Zimmer a lot. You could make an argument for Chud too...However, I think McCoy is very interesting.

Nice write up...very informative. I do think it was amazing what he got out of the talent in Denver.

If you take a look at Carolina's offensive stats the year after he left you see a huge drop off from where they were w/him. I'm leaning towards Zimmer but am intrigued by McCoy.

Spot on my man, I agree this guy intrigues me the most out of all the candidates they've interviewed. What he did with that offense in Denver to fit Tebow and make it to the playoffs, you can't overlook that. Would've loved to have had Jay Gruden, but he chickened out and pulled his name from the HC bucket.

Sooooooo.... do you like the pic?

I am very curious on how the interview went, and I haven't heard of any new interviews set up.

Very comprehensive rundown, and very informative. Although I would still easily prefer Zimmer and possibly Toub over him, I think you've made a strong case for him. I will of course support any coach we hire and hope for the best, but I'm more intrigued with him now than I used to be.

Thanks Hayden on the write up, I don't know anything about McCoy thanks for the research, I do disagree with you on the success he had this yr. Tebow won games because the D played great during that stretch of games.....Tebow also ran a college offense because he didnt have the skills to run a pro offense.....Yes he changed the O to fit Tebow but so didnt Dan Henning with the wildcat and I dont want him as HC....

His work in Carolina coaching Moore is a big plus because I dont think we have enough juice to trade up to get RG3....I Think RG will go in the top 3 picks once all the hype leading up to the draft.
