The REAL state of our roster. My opinion. Of course.
Big time NFL football players: these guys are "all-pro" level performers and consistent "IMPACT" players. They have "top shelf" roster value.
Reshad Jones S
Jarvis Landry WR
Ndamukong Suh DT (I am including Suh based on his pre-Miami performance)
Solid NFL football players: these are guys that are "plug and play" on any (or most) NFL teams. They have very good roster value.
Rishard Matthews WR
Mike Pouncey C
Jordan Cameron TE
Dion Sims TE
Jelani Jenkins LB
NFL football players: (these are guys that would be "productive additions" on a number of NFL teams. They have good roster value.
Lamar Miller RB
Koa Misi LB
Ryan Tannehill QB
Descending solid NFL football players: (on the downside of their careers). Their roster value is highly suspect moving forward.
Brent Grimes CB
Cam Wake DE
Ascending possible NFL football players: Their roster value is notably on an upward trend.
Jordan Phillips DT
Ja'Wuan James T
Derrick Shelby DE
Lots too be excited about: (enough said, we hope!)
DeVante Parker WR
The balance of the roster has not significantly demonstrated any exceptional performance characteristics on the field. As a group, they are completely replaceable with minimal or no PROVEN value at the professional level.
That said, I think our roster has been significantly OVER-RATED by most prognosticators etc.
The legit talent (certifiable by performance on the field) is rather thin and spotty across the entire roster. Granted, there may be significantly more talent than I am identifying, but I also believe the roster effectively represents Philbin's evaluation of talent and that is cause for much concern.
Of course, one could debate that OV (or whoever) should be included on the ascending list etc. But my bigger point is (when you go down the roster line-by-line) with a critical eye there are a LOT of holes.
My .02.
