The Real Value Of Gus!

Ya know whats interesting? I think Frerotte is the type of quarterback Spielman was shooting for, but ended up with Feeley.

Think about it. A second/third stringer, overlooked because of overwhelming, younger talent, that could enter into a game and be that diamond in the rough you so love to hear about.

Except Spielman is an idiot. And Saban is a wunderkind.

Saban picked up a guy who fits this offense, fits this team, and as that article reveals, fits the mold of a great leader.

Feeley gets @$$ bruises.

As long as Gus keeps us from losing and doesnt throw any pick 6's, we've got ourselves quite the team.

I read that article and I am gaining a new found respect for gus....Heck, I'll even make it Gus from now on....:).

You were an AJ backer, I think this was one of his big problems. I really don't know if he commanded respect. What's your take on that?

This article goes to prove the whole sheep-wolves line was just a sound bite. Leadership at the QB position is essential. Feeley does not get any respect in the huddle & Frerotte does, that's the main reason Gus is the QB. The team will only goes a far as Gus can lead them. Saban's leadership ability is proven. He is a great leader but he's on the sidelines come gametime....

QB's should always be a direct reflection of their coaches. They are the "coach" on the field and it is extremely important that Head Coach and QB be on the same page. Shula and Marino, Montana and Elway, Brady and BillBelly would be good examples.

I think Gus is a lot like Saban. They are tough, no-nonsense, in-your-face personalities that handle adversity very well. AJ Feeley is Hollywood. He's got the surfer look and attitude with the hot girlfriend. I never saw AJ and Saban on the same page, which I think caused Saban to ultimately go with Gus.

What I liked best about Gus on Sunday was that he didn't panic after the bad interception. He sucked it up and did what he had to do to win the game. I would say Saban feels the same way.

I'm sure he didn't but, it comes with experience and winning, if it comes at all.
And it sure would help if the HC says, "This is our QB listen to him!" or some similar statement of support.

Feeley may yet one day command the same kind of respect butt (pun intended) he's got a lot to prove and his window is shrinking fast.

I am actually pretty shocked he hasn't been cut yet.
