The Real Value of Ronnie Brown

this topic is right on... ronnie is the kinda guy that improves the play of everyone around him like Mike Vick. Both guys are Serious threats in the running AND passing game. Sometimes Mike Vick might not do so well, but he is still dictating the defenses approach. Ronnie Brown is multi-dimensional and defenses will have to concentrate on him. He'll be our team MVP by next season. Maybe sooner.

Another thing that is beyond stats is respect. Look at how many Broncos were on the LOS, it's because they knew how much talent Ronnie Brown has and what he is capable of. Him being out there helped us win regardless of stats.

yeah, watching the game in the stands, i knew that if we didn't screw it up, we'd have a 1st down about 5 times in that game, because the broncos showed 9 guys in the box with no deep safeties. all booker and chambers had to do was beat 1 guy for a handful of yards in each of those plays. the bronco's playcalling, even, wasn't very good. maybe the heat effected their coordinators too.

denver crowded the line all game to stop our running game, forcing gus to beat them (and he did)... i think with the passing attack looking better, teams wont be able to do that and it'll open up spots for ronnie... not to mention i tihnk we need more misdirection plays with the way our line has had trouble run blocking... but i think he'll be fine, denver was one of the best run stopping teams in the NFL last year...

Some very good points have been made. Denver stacked against the run and has a pretty good defense. Ronnie needs more time to develop, etc. But the point I was trying to make is that if just about any RB in the league, including Cadillac, ran for 57 yards with a 2+ YPC average, they would have had a bad game. On the other hand, you cannot judge Ronnie's performance on those numbers alone. He does too many things that helps his team win. He is a mult-dimensional player that will give D-Coordinators headaches for years.

Why make comparisons with Caddy--We got RB and thats all I care about--who cares what Caddy is doing--btw I thought Ronnie had a pretty decent game considering the O line's mediocrity, and it being his first game. I was especially impressed with what he done when he never had the ball, not when he had it. There is plenty more to come I'm sure

yeah he had a good GAME, not just rushing game, but he was great blocking back there, stopped the blitz a few times with key blocks...

and also the defense was so keyed in on him it opened up for other people... that reverse play? ronnie had 3 guys on him right away as he handed it off... thats what opened up so much room for chambers... also morris' TD... it was a fake to ronnie and the defense bit, opening up room for morris to bounce outside and score...

yes his rushing numbers were nothing to write home about, but all in all i tihnk he had a good game...

Many people would like to criticize Ronnie Brown for not putting up the big numbers and expect him, because he was the #2 pick, to be a 100-yard rusher every week. I don't think they understand the value of Ronnie Brown.

Although Ronnie is quite capable of big rushing games and I'm sure we'll some from him this year and beyond, Ronnie is one of those players that will do so many things to help his team win, but not necessarily show up in the stats. He will make key blocks, grab throws and turn them into first downs and pick up the tough yards that move the chains and lead to scores.

The bottom line is that when people look at the stats at the end of the year and see where Cadillac, or another player has more rushing yards, for instance, it doesn't truly reflect the complete value of the player. Ronnie may not always dominate statistically, but he will have complete games and do more to contribute to a total team effort that ultimately wins ball games. Ronnie is a very VALUABLE player who does whatever it takes to win. In my mind, that is more important than stats.

There is no doubt that he was not as fluid in our offense Sunday as Caddy was in TBs..that is no reason to fret tho...he played very well considering our weak OL. The stats will come and as you said, his pass-protection was flawless Sunday, and he showed he is capable of catching the ball as well. Caddy had similar numbers save for one 71 yd run..not taking away anything from him. Brown is still rusty from not being in camp and he needs to learn from his stuttering and juking in the backfield (which I'm sure Saban and Linehan have pointed out)...in the second half, he started just plowing thru the line instead of trying to pick his holes (which weren't there for the most part) and he was more successful...
